What's new

Brown Leaf Acquisitions -- January 2025

Yeah, I don't see a brass pin or the Brigham name anywhere. Some searching showed Brigham started manufacturing in Italy in the late 90's. The (new) Voyageur 129 I got for Christmas was made in Italy, but bears the Brigham name AND has the brass pin.

I believe you're right, and I assume this is not a Brigham.

Research suggests the now discontinued Gold Rush benefits from age. I already have a tin stashed, but these three tins were the last stock, sulking and neglected at "buy me" prices, at a tobacconists in Belfast. I was happy to come to the rescue.

The box is St James Plug. The flake certainly needs a fair bit of age before I enjoy it, and the plug possibly more so. I'll be getting this chopped up and put in Mylar sleeping bags for a nice long nap.

Mac Baren HH trifecta arrived yesterday - 1.75 oz of Bold KY and Burley Flake and 16 oz of Old Dark Fired.. I think Tom Keifer from Cinderella knew this moment was coming in 1988 with the song “Don’t know what you got (till it’s gone)” 🥲

Or perhaps he borrowed that line from Joni Mitchell (Big Yellow Taxi 1970)?

That is some good looking tobacco right there; nothing like a box of flakes!

Stopped in my local B&M tonight and saw they had a few tins of Sutliff Private Stock. Since it seems these are now unobtanium online I grabbed the one tin of Barbados Plantation they had and one of the couple of tins of Dark & Silky.

I was hoping for an Eastfarthing which seems to get a lot of love online but I have not tried, and maybe another Molto Dolce for the same reason but no dice. I do have a tin of MD which I haven't tried yet, but it'll have to do.

They had two tins of HH; one of the Bold Kentucky and one Pure Virginia but I didn't grab either.

Should I go back and grab them?

When they're gone, they're gone.
If you don't intend to smoke them, they can be traded for something you do.

From Tobaccopipes, I ordered some Luxury Twist and Bullseye Flake, Amphora Original, and MB Virginia No. 1. I know I like the first two, and the second two sound really good. Hoping I won't have USPS troubles this time.

There's one real B & M tobacco shop in town with two locations. Perhaps I'll stop by in the next week and see what they have. Usually they have the Stokkebye flakes I mentioned, plus the Navy Flake, certain (prob. Sutliff) aromatics in jars, and a number of Peterson and C & D tins.
