Best Inexpensive Cream - IYHO

I buy on low price not fussy about brand or smell, soap softens beard, making shaving easier.

In a pinch I have been know to use a left over bar soap ruminant in pinch.

Some soap are very pricy, maybe because art work on tin, or fancy package.

I found this on google. Apparantly they lied about the ingredients. So rather than remedy, they are just discontinuing.
I just read the article. It's quite amusing because the plaintiff's case alleges that Gillette 'Pure' is not pure because some of the ingredients are altered from their natural state - particularly the palmitic acid and stearic acid, which are palm oil that is altered by the chemical process of saponification. Well, yes, it's soap. Did he want a tube full of just the raw ingredients?

What a waste of time and money. I have no love for Procter & Gamble but I do hope that the plaintiff loses and has to pay Gillette's legal costs. I suppose the lesson here is that if a big company uses a word like 'pure' in a product name then they are inviting this sort of trouble from unscrupulous lawyers with no real clients to keep them occupied productively. All this does is increase the cost we pay for shaving soap.

Lea Mentolada also works well for me. Just around $3 from Connaught Shaving. Also enjoy the LEA professional cream in the giant 250g tube for around $4 from Connaught.
I broke out the Lea Mentolada for the Summer. I was able to produce what seemed like a good lather with a synthetic brush, but the shave was a bit rough. I did get very nice shaves from the CRS Rose once I increased the amount of cream
The scent is quite pleasant though mild. Excellent shaving performance. Key is to scoop out the right amount of product for your shaving technique. You can dial that in within a few shaves as I did. I use a small expresso spoon to scoop out what is needed and spread it on my face and then face lather with my 26mm plissoft brushes. Really nice shave.

Connaught is already out of stock on at least on of the Cyril creams. They seem to manage inventories really tightly though I'm happy to live with that as it likely supports the business model that delivers some of the best prices out there.
I had a bad shave with Lea Mentolada on my first try. It seemed to form a slick lather, but the shave was rough. On my second attempt I increased the amount to a bit over 1/4th tsp and bowl lathered with a soft synthetic brush. The lather was very wet and sparse at the beginning, but gained consistency during agitation. I actually got a great shave out of it. I agree that the amount of cream is the key issue. I am also noticing that boar brushes are not ideal for creams. In my case a synthetic brush with limited backbone seems to work best. I am glad that I got the mentholated version. It's perfect for the summer.

Same for me, find it most enjoyable when it's warmer. For my LEA and CRS creams the key is to use plenty of product in order to achieve the desired slickness/protection. Use about an inch of the Mentolada from the tube, slightly less from the wider tube opening of the LEA professional. Scoop out a good almond sized quantity of my CRS with an expresso spoon. Synthetic brushes are definitely best for these.

P.S. The LEA professional is also an excellent superlathering agent for hard soaps.

I believe that I heard that the Lea Classic Cream in the tin can has more lanolin than the hard soap puck. Other than scent, is there a difference between the Lea Professional Cream in the large blue and white tube and the Lea Cream in the tin can?

I'd say so. I tried the LEA cream and got rid of it. It was thin and runny and offered no protection. The slickness wasn't there, either. However, I was using a straight razor and YMMV. I have heard this complaint a lot about LEA.

Shaving soap has become overpriced in my opinion.

There are a few good artisans that are pretty reasonably priced given the exceptional quality ingredients like Sterling, but for the most part I balk at the prices they are asking for. 30 dollars for shave soap to me is too much.

Welliquestion the value in a 30 dollar soap, but some of the art work on lid might make buyers have to have. Guess not could be like the folks who say they know difference between $4.00. Cigar, and $100.00 Cigar.

I enjoy a good Cigar, have found some gems cheap, and elcrapo expensive once.

I’ve always enjoyed most of the cheaper shaving products like Nivea cream, Palmolive sticks, Poroso, tubs, and cream. There have been a few I didn’t like like Arko. But for the most part, they’ve been very good.

I find it odd that despite having spent far more on brushes and razors than most people would think rational, let alone prudent, I still balk at the prices of artisan soaps. When it comes to software, I honestly get more pleasure from the "everyman" products that can be found in supermarkets and drugstores (depending on what country you happen to be in). Can't explain it - it's just how I'm wired.

After using the Jack Black cream,I did not purchase another tube. I did purchase a tube of the Gillette Pure. I was using bar soap in between, which I found to be very good on my face. I have purchased a second tube of the Pure, but the more I use it, the less impressed I am with it. Seems to be making my face very sensitive to the razor. When I use bar soap, this does not happen. I have been using up some old cans of foam I have under the sink, and they are not that great for my face either! Most mornings its bar soap, applied by hand. Slick, and gives my a close shave, with no irritation! Tried to like the Pure, but my face is not liking it! Will use up all the extra stuff I have lying around, or give it away, but the mainstay will be my Ivory soap on the sink. $30 IS a lot for a soap, but to each his own. If you like it, you like it! Not my money. I tend to be brand friendly with a lot of things in my life, and will spend a few dollars more for some things, in a brand I like. Shave soaps is not one of them. You all enjoy...

A very minimalist approach. I like it.

I have used bar soap for bathing many times to shave. A good soap works well and is very slick.

A real sleeper here. Only 6 ingredients, 7 if you include the scent. Less is more.

Let me say again if it hasn't been said enough already, in the euro-zone Palmolive is awesome in terms of the price / performance ratio. The lather often doesn't feel that protective in terms of having a thick, creamy texture, but it seems to make up for it in slickness. I genuinely look forward to my weekly Palmolive outings!
