What's new

Best aftershave for a beginner.

Thanks for the ideas Gents, will report on the Proraso and Spieck when I receive them next week, should also have some time today to try some drug store classics while I'm out.

Kinda wishing I had some Captains Choice in the order lol.

A little ASAD to go with my current CAD.

If you're looking for something to heal up hamburger-face, NIVEA Sensitive Skin Aftershave Balm. If you're looking for something to perk you up, put a spring in your step, and make the ladies sit up and take notice, Clubman or Old Spice.

I look forward to giving Speik and Proraso a try.

As others here mention I've just been using Pinaud Clubman, Pinaud Bay Rum and Skin Bracer.

I really like all 3 scents, but I think my face likes the Skin Bracer the best.

I like the advice about going to the store and doing some aftershave sniffing. I'm sure you will come across something that you will like while your waiting on your order.

You aren't a DE shaver until you own and have at least tried.... Clubman, Lilac Veg, Old Spice, Aqua Velva, and Skin Bracer. Then you're ready for the higher end stuff!

I just picked up the mentioned CVS version of Aqua Velva this past weekend. They may be closing it out, because the plastic bottle was 75 percent off. I would suggest calling to make sure that your store still has it in stock. I purchased the last 9 ounce bottle at the store nearest me for around 1.75. Its made by Vi Jon, in the States. Their knockoffs have a decent reputation, as a beginner I am mostly experimenting with the cheap stuff and this past the test with SWMBO (though that was a pleasant surprise to me!). Otherwise, the same potion can be obtained from Family Dollar if you have one around where you live. Pinaud is not dreadfully expensive at all and they can be found in Walgreens and other assorted pharmacies.

Pinaud Clubman, Old Spice, Aqua Velva, a Bay rum, Thayers Witch Hazel. All can be had for under $10. Also I would recommend going to Garry's Sample Shop in the Vendor section of the BST. He has a lot of different products, and you can buy a ton of samples very reasonably. His service is great.

I love Captains Choice, it was my first aftershave when I started DE shaving, and is still one of my favorites. Get it, I don't think you will regret it.

"Must Have" (OK, or 'Should Try") aftershaves: Pinaud Clubman, Aqua Velva, Skin Bracer (also Afta AS balm), a good Bay Rum, Old Spice. Then graduate to the Veg!

Giving it some serious thought heh. Just received my Proraso Green and Speick today and I couldn't help but try them both at my desk. Coworkers thought I was nuts but damn does splashing them on feel great!

I general question I know, in about three weeks into DE, and usually use a Kiehl's toner post shave, but would love to try and good aftershave. Of which there are more options than stars in the sky. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, something good for all seasons. I don't mind paying for quality.
Tabac for any one.

FWIW I love and I mean love old man ( no offense guys ) AS. My #1 is pinnaud clubman followed by the original Old Spice and then Pinnaud Jeris Osage Rub. Other goodies are Brut , aqua velva, skin bracer. If a balm is your thing then give Taylor's o old Bond street a go they make a great sanadalwood, Prosaro is a classic and you can't go wrong with them also Dreadnaught is great too. If you want the real deal though just use a alum block and nothing else.

I've been doing this a long, long time and have found that the old staples are staples for a reason...they are cheap, very effective (more so than more expensive stuff), and the scents are great.

Proraso Green
Aqua Velva
Old Spice
Clubman

Nivea Sensitive After Shave Balm, widely available and a good value, has been a staple in the wet shaving community for many years.
