It's a great brush. It says its pure badger, but it is 25x softer than my C&E pure badger. Lathers Tabac like a champ. Bowl or Face.

If I was to do it over again, my first brush would have been a reknotted vintage from b/s/t.

where else can you get a two-band "finest" badger for under $50.

I didn't take the time to read through all of the posts here, so this may have already been mentioned. I have a Vulfix 660 small, super badger that I have been using exclusively since January. I have only considered buying another brush out of curiosity. I have been completely content. Mine was about $43, but the same brush in pure badger runs less than $30. I would highly recommend it. It is great with both soaps and creams, and it holds enough lather for at least four passes, sometimes five (I've never needed that much).

$7.86, $0.97 shipping at walmart.com.

That is about as inexpensive as it gets. It even comes with a decent soap, especially to start with.

If I were going to get a boar, I'd try to find one of these.
I've heard they're discontinued but don't know if that's true. They have tons of backbone and they're exceptionally soft at the tips. I bought one, used it twice, then decided I like my badger brushes better. I'd sell you mine with free shipping, but the earliest I could send it would be next week. Anyway, they're great brushes.

It is really simple you know; when you want to go cheap you will have to go for a boar. For about $10,- you can have a high quality boar with a cheap handle; for twice the money the handle will be nicer and for half the money it still will be servicable.

As for cheap badgers, don't even think about it! If you want to fool yourself you can be happy with a $ 25,- prickly b#tch and tell yourself you made the best deal out there! But who are you kidding; don't start with badgers till you have the budget and even when you have, the humbly boar might still work better for you!

It is true that some of the best values in badger brushes are in the $75 or so range. This is no small amount of money for a lot of us, but it's also not the $200+ that can be paid for the most premium brushes. I agree that it's not a bad idea to start with a boar, save up, then get a nice Rooney in Super. The holidays aren't too far off, you know.
