Atelier Durdan Vestige

How does it compare to Blackland Sabre level2? In terms of efficiency, shave quality etc.
Thank you
I like the weight of the Sabre 2 more and the Sabre 2 feels smoother but the Vestige +++ is more aggressive so that was a trade off I was ok with. The +++ shave results in a smoother BBS shave by a long shot. Also the smoothness lasts a good 12-13 hours.

I truly had the Le Faulx all set and ready to go for this morning’s shave exercise but, at the very last moment, I changed gears and opted with the Vestige paired with a fresh GEM blade. Why? I don’t know. I just felt compelled to do so. First shave in and not a single regret on the last second switch. Uber smooth, comfy and a superb result. A traditional 3 pass shave (I had way to much suds, had to try and use most of it) with just 1 tiny weeper near Sir Adam. No tugging, no harshness from a first use GEM blade which are known to be somewhat unforgiving for the first shave or two. The blade reveal or more specifically the blade edge is kept to a minimum on the face while still allowing the GEM blade to cut cleanly & smoothly Without fear of too much blade feel or too little of it. My only regret is the handle which is very heavy compared to the compactness & light nature of the Vestige head assembly. Perhaps I should have had Augustin hollow out the handle on this one as well. Oversight on my behalf. Still, I went with it and just made a slight grip change for better balance & control and it was extremely satisfying what the shave delivered. Very close results to my favorite modern GEM, the Blackland Sabre if not equal to it. They both feel quite different but, the end results are very similar indeed. This razor is going to provide excellent shave results as I tinker with potential handles for better balance & control. Wasn’t bad today but, I think it can get better. As is, it’s built exceptionally well with exacting tolerances. Fun ahead dialing this creation in to shave performance perfection. It’s real close as it stands.

Great shaves to all…

No Vestige handle? I imagine that would be very handle heavy.

Yes, it is. Oversight on my behalf as I stated earlier. I should have asked Augustin to drill out the handle but, I failed to take into account the extremely small & lighter head assembly. Not that I can’t shave with it as I just have to adjust how I hold it but, a lighter handle would have given me the opportunity to have better balance and a grip that is more to my liking. As is, there is practically no weight towards the head. Again, that can be mostly solved with a different handle or just contact Augustin for a modified one. I’ll get a few more shaves in to see if I can acclimate to the weight discrepancy & balance of this particular set up.

I'd wager we won't see production runs of the new Sabre until '25. He's just now discussing the first iteration.
In his video he actually said they are finishing final details and it's not like the Osprey where they did videos in every step of the design and production. He actually said it may be available mid June
