La Faulx ++
I'm glad you like it. Maybe I'll order one too.I just had my first shave with the Vestige medium +.
I did a day shave because I start work late today and purposely skipped a day for the Vestige.
This is totally different than my first Vestige that I sold (back when he first came out with them).
The fit, finish and shave is completely different!
The shave was extremely smooth and sufficiently efficient. It's got barely no blade reveal with the medium plate (reminds me of the Blutt) but it's enough to cut the whiskers.
It took some buffing due to the minimal blade reveal but it was fine and I ended up with a wonderfully close shave.
The small size of the head and lightness of the whole package, makes it feel very unique for a GEM. Very enjoyable!
For my tough hair this medium plate will be perfect for daily shaving (which is what I normally do) where the buffing won't be necessary.
I'm still convinced that something was off with the first one I had. The finish was mediocre, the blade fitment was terrible (the custom handle as well) and the shave was rough.
This one is spot on in every respect. A++
I'm seriously considering the Le Maurice as the next Atelier Durdan razor! That's mine:
ATELIER DURDAN LE MAURICE, DUAL HEAD, 1.6 MM
I've got this 1.6 mm dual, yet as the blade exposure is almost neutral the overall smoothness is guaranteed. Even the Open Comb edge is very civilized.I'm seriously considering the Le Maurice as the next Atelier Durdan razor!
I'd like a machined 1.20 with the grooved plate on both sides.
Almost neutral, isn't it +0.05"?I've got this 1.6 mm dual, yet as the blade exposure is almost neutral the overall smoothness is guaranteed. Even the Open Comb edge is very civilized.
Yes, indeed 0.05.Almost neutral, isn't it +0.05"?
That's my sweet spot in terms of blade exposure.
I'm between the Le Maurice or the Number 7!
Anyone tried both and which do you prefer?
Or opinions on those that have tried either would also be appreciated.
What I'm considering:
Le Maurice in 1.2mm
Number 7 in 0.9mm
Thanks!!
Excellent information.I've tried both, I got to be in passarounds for both of them, so have tried various plates as well. They are completely different razors. If you like very high clamping and a 0.05 mm reveal, Le Maurice is the one to go to. If clamping and a rigid blade edge doesn't matter to you and you want more exposure and aggression, go for the No7.
Now my opinion - I love Le Maurice and did not like the No7 at all. Le Maurice keeps a very rigid blade edge, shaves very smoothly and is quite efficient. I found the No7 to be loud and chattery, I did not feel confidence with it like I do with Le Maurice. No7 is much more aggressive than the specs would say. I tried the 0.3, 0.7. 1.1 and 1.5mm gaps. The 0.7mm No7 is more aggressive than the Le Maurice, the 0.3 is less.
I own the 1.2 and 1.4mm Le Maurice.
I read your pass around results last night (and all the others). Seems like the Number 7 is a 50/50 thing that I'm gonna pass on.I don’t have many bad shaves these days. The last truly horrible shave was with the No.7 0.70. I’m sure it was pilot error but I cut my chin up something fierce. This was months ago and I still get weepers where I never had them before. Old skin isn’t a resilient as the skin of my youth.
I love the La Faulx so much, I was expecting something I’d love, but thankfully, it was a pass around and I didn’t lose any money.
I don't know about the weight part but for the prices, no VAT for USA. It's what it says + the shipping!Does any of you know the weight of a Le Maurice short handle with and without the hollowed-out feature? I really prefer razors that weigh <100g.
Also, I assume the US$ prices on the Atelier Durdan Web site don't include VAT, so that they're the actual prices we Americans pay (plus 45 Euro for shipping). Am I right? I hope not.
