Are All Adjustables Aggressive To More Aggressive?

Lockback

Dull yet interesting
How aggressive is the Osprey at lower settings? I tried a Rex and found it was only bearable for me on 1/2. Same on the Yaqi Ultima Stainless.

Watched a good review of the Parker Variant OC.

Like mild but efficient razors and I’ve found that regular DEs work better for me than adjustables. Maybe I haven’t found the right adjustable
I don't have an Osprey so I can't help you there.
I have heard that about the Rex Ambassador; that it's pretty aggressive even on the milder settings. That was my concern when I started this thread: I didn't want an adjustable razor that went from "Wild to Wilder". I wanted a "Mild to Wild" and I found it: the Pearl Flexi.
Your mileage may vary. But mine is fantastic.

If that is what you are looking for, you may want to consider a Tatara Muramasa.

Chan Eil Whiskers

Fumbling about.
1) It has to be under $100, preferably under $70
2) It has to be mild on its lowest setting.

One of my major requirements is a very mild low end setting suitable for shaving my very sensitive upper lip ATG S-N.

There are a good many adjustables with excellent low end abilities, razors which meet my demanding standards.

I can think of two which meet your stated requirements, and mine.
  1. The Progress.
  2. The Pearl Flexi, the SB version, not the OC version.
Both are sweet razors when it comes to the low end.

The Yaqi Avanti is considerably more expensive. I got mine on sale for $130 with tax and shipping. It has excellent low end, too, and is stainless steel. On sale, it might be worth considering in lieu of a Progress.

There are many adjustable razors which meet your requirements, at much higher price points. There are also adjustables which don't meet your requirements, at low and high price points.

Happy shaves,

Jim

This is the way.

Not sure sure if OP found a razor in the last year... but I agree fully on the Progress. It's my best razor in that I get my best shaves from it.

I used it today for three passes. WTG @ 2.5, ATG @ 4 with no pressure, slightly angled toward XTG on the upper lip, and cleanup ATG at 1.5. (I have it zeroed at 1 = fully closed.) At 1.5 you have to have the angle perfect or it won't cut, and it's mild enough for multiple angles of buffing if need be. Despite the mildness, the Progress stays efficient at low settings.

I'd call this afternoon's result a BBS+ which is my code for "smooth atg when stretched," and I will probably wake up BBS tomorrow.

I mostly use it between 2-3 for two passes WTG + XTG, for that daily DFS+. I enjoy my game changers, but Progress gives me better shaves and goes even milder than the GC .68p plate.

I went with the Pearl Flexi closed comb and absolutely love it. 🍻

I found my perfect adjustable.
