What's new

Anyone pretty much sticking with one soap?

I'm still in the early stages so I have an urge to try them all but eventually I want to narrow it down to 1-3 soaps that I will use regularly. I can be very costly to buy bunch of soaps at once just to narrow down your choices though. I think I have enough soap to last me for the better part of a decade. I guess that's where the BST comes in handy. A guy can buy and try and sell or trade away what he doesn't like.

I'm down to 3 or 4 but would definitely be fine with only Cella or Proraso White...hands down my favorites.

Yep...Mitchell's Woolfat.

I use it around 28 days out of every month with Speick and Mike's pine/cedar for the rare change up.

When I get through all of current stock, it will be one of three: La Toja, MWF, or Cella.

Plenty of time to make the decision!

If you find that one soap that brings you the shave you want and enjoy that is great. I will be honest and say that part of the enjoyment of this whole DE shaving is trying all the different shave soaps and creams. I am pretty sure that if I ever do find that one shave soap and stop trying any others than my days of coming to B&B would probably end as I would feel like the journey was over.

Well said, sir.

Yep. I'm now working on the last of a puck of Harris Arlington I started after finishing a puck of Tabac. After this, on to a tub of Cella. I could easily use any of these three exclusively until they're finished.

Unacceptably Lasering Chicken Giblets?
RR Don Marco
Love it!
Right now I am using it, Arko, and MWF.
I have many to use up but Don Marco is without a doubt my favorite and if there could be only 1, it would be the one.
marty

I just messed up and bought a mess of Ogallala soaps and a few others.
I have 8 (thought it was 7) tubs of Don Marco en route and 1 of the new Don Marco hard soaps coming.
I am good for many years to come or til the next itch gets me!

I tend to use on soap until it's gone. It takes a loooong time to get through a cake of Tabac, but I did it. Now I'm on a healthy chunk of Cella stuffed into a (previously) empty tub from Prorasso. I expect to be on it for the next 3 months or so.

While I have a couple that I change up with, I have been using Barrister and Mann as my daily and Mikes or Mystic on the weekends. Great shaves from all. If you have not tried Barrister and Mann it is so worth it.

Well ... I slightly disagree ... wasn't I properly shaving when I was ignorant of B&B, and used the same soap and brush every day? I think I was ... DE or wet shaving in general is not about trying as many products as possible ... that is shaving hobby.

I am a one soap person basically; I know what works for me, and I don't like to change what is working.

I still have two pucks of VDH and may use them at some point but Mike's is my soap now and I probably won't try anything else. I also have a tube of Proraso that I will use every now and again just to switch off to cream now and again.
I'm the same with blades. I have always only used one blade. Lately I have been experimenting with Astra and Feather and when I make my choice that will be it. I'm not a try it all type.

I am the same type as you ... I prefer to stick with what works for me, and only want to change when I'm not satisfied anymore with the current product.

So I guess wet shaving has saved me a lot of money over the years lol

I'm pretty much sticking with Proraso with an occasional foray into my stash of vintage Williams. I've also got some MdC that I will eventually use up, but Proraso sees daily use.

Sadly, after a year of wet shaving I have not finished a single pack of soap or tub of cream.
MWF and Tabac are the ones I use more often than the others though.
Someone should start a thread say " One month with MWF" all who join should use only that soap for a month.

One of the reasons for moving around - both in razors, blades and soaps - is that I'd like to get to the point where I can use anything at any time, and not be dependent on one technique or one product. *
Each of the small wonderful artisans won't be around forever, the larger companies like to reformulate.
While some may charcterize this behaviour as "always searching for a better shave", I don't think that's me - I also don't want to get stuck in a rut.

*ok, so I want to emulate turtle. there are worse goals :)
