What's new

Another D.R. Harris Arlington thread? Why not?

I've been a member here for almost five years, and have been wetshaving off and on for a bit longer than that, but for whatever reason had never tried Arlington soap until this week. (I've used the cologne, which I liked, and the shaving cream, which I didn't.) Well, two shaves into it, I am happy to report that - - - - - - -it's GOOD! Granted it's still early, but so far I prefer it to Harris Marlborough, Lavender, or Almond.

Just thought I'd share.

I have the Harris Arlington shave stick and really like it. That's the only Harris shave soap or cream I have tried.

Guys, how do DR Harris soaps compare to Tabac? Even though i have 2 Tabac pucks on the mail (after using a year both Tabac an MWF to compare) i'd like to try other soaps. I'm also waiting Panna Crema get some stock.

Tabac is one of my fav's. Easy to lather and a great scent. Arlington is more difficult to lather (not by much) and not as much glide (IMO). The thing with Tabac is the scent. You either love it or hate it. I obviously love it. The only thing I found easier to lather is Barrister and Mann with as good of glide/performance.

Whilst Tabac is a great soap, I much prefer Harris soaps over Tabac. The Arlington scent is awesome and not as over the top cologne strength like Tabac. Performance wise, I found Harris to lather about as easily but I prefer the Harris lather over Tabac.

Post shave feel was also slightly better with Harris and this could be due to the excessive scents loaded in Tabac which was too much for my skin to handle (although, I didn't get any adverse reaction or anything).

Bagged a bowl of Arlington soap today, ran a test lather and was really pleased with the result. I have very hard water and MWF has always yielded disappointing results, however I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's Arlington shave!

Arlington is the heat but Windsor trumps the scent IMHO...that said, the entire line provides top quality performance and scent is so YMMV

I seriously can't decide which of the two I like better. Arlington is an old favourite but the Windsor is extremely pleasing and I like that the scent mellows when lathered as it's quite strong off the puck.

I love both and am glad they are both in my den.

Performance can't be faulted...just awesome slick, thick and protective lather. Doesn't have the MWF post-shave feel but then again, no other soap provides that.

Too true!

Bought a puck of Arlington yesterday. Like the scent very much! Normally I use tabac or ToBS cream. I'm curious to see how this stuff lathers.

I had a question about Arlington aftershave milk. I really like the soap, but noticed that the milk's scent is not the same as the soap. The citrus notes just aren't there or disappear quickly. I also tried the Arlington wet-nap that came with the shipment, and it too didn't smell like the soap. What's up with that? I will say the milk is very restorative, perhaps moreso than Santa Maria Novella Analcolica lotion. I'm just disappointed in the scent. Maybe a splash of Pereja Colnyasi might up the citrus notes....Any thoughts?

That was my experience with the milk as well. The citrus disappears instantly and the fern/earthy thing is all that remains. It does work wonders as an aftershave, though.

Try the A/S splash. It's smell isn't like the milk and it has menthol so it's different than the soap, too, but it has more citrus.

I have noticed a difference between the scent of the shave soap and the scent of the cream. The cream is more of that lemon lollipop flavor, and the soap seems more ferny, musky. Is that what you observed? Why can't all their products in a particular line smell the same? It's frustrating!

I've never used the cream. The soap has a great balance between fern and citrus to me. Compared to that the milk has a considerable amount more fern. The citrus is very very subdued after you put it on. The AS splash seems to go the other direction. In fact, on my skin it smells almost exactly like fruit loops cereal smells. They all work great. I love the milk and the splash. But I do wish the milk smelled like the soap more.

Is there any AS balm you would recommend that more clearly matches the citrus in the Arlington cream? What about George Trumper Limes skin food? Balm, not alcohol based splash.

GT Limes skin food is a little bit more "bright", lime scent wise - if that makes sense. Great stuff, but very expensive. BUT it does last a long time when used sparingly. Id actually recommend it, just be prepared to freak when you see how small the bottle is.

I also have Arlington body wash, but its also very expensive. Scent is great and last a while. Unfortunately, the bottle doesn't last a long time. Same with their Windsor. Neither DR Harris body washes I used lather up at all for me. I wont buy them again.

Thanks for the suggestion. I kind of spent my budget on the milk, so I'll have to save up for the AS splash.

Scent aside, all Harris milk works amazingly well. The Arlington smells different than the soap -- but it still works better than just about anything else in my stash as far as a wonderful skin conditioning aftershave. Enjoy it as is. The splash is worthy of future consideration, but you're by no means sacrificing by using the milk. It's an incredible product. Just more ferny smelling than the soap.
