Aftershave for an allergic, sensitive-skinned, unscented, un-modern sort of fellow?

Do Proraso products have any sandalwood in them? Also, can one mix the liquid cream after shave with other products, both to dilute the other scent and to add the soothing effect?

Thanks. :) I'll definitely give it a try, then. And I'll look into the Thayer's when next I can coax my wallet into shelling out a few bucks for shaving goods.

Look into the Body Shop Maca root ASB. Not sure if it has sandlewood in it, but if you PM your address I can send you a small sample.

Nivea makes an unscented ASB that works well and is widely available.

Thanks, that's a few more to look for. :)

So I tried the Nivea today, and discovered that I had forgotten I'm allergic to sandalwood. At least, I'm pretty sure it's sandalwood -- when I've encountered it before, it has been described to me as such. It was not a pleasant rediscovery. So I'm really hoping the Ogallala folks only put sandalwood in the "Bay Rum and Sandalwood" version of their aftershave.

Now that I think about it, this is the main reason I've gone unscented for the last two and a half decades. Sandalwood is (or used to be) one of the most popular fragrances.

What about the Speick, Proraso, Thayer, 444, and the rest? Safe from sandalwood?

Thank you, damooshki, I shall seek that out.

In case anyone was wondering, Proraso does have sandalwood. It's faint -- faint enough that I didn't detect it at first -- but it's definitely there. I tried a bit this afternoon, to see what it would do with the last lingering razor burn. It was wonderfully cooling and pleasant and made my face feel very good indeed. But then I caught a whiff that had eluded me when sniffing the bottle, a familiar and hated scent, and then BAM! headache. Sandalwood.

There's none in the Ogallala Bay Rum unless you buy the "& Sandalwood" variety, though, so that's something.

I'll look for the unscented Nivea and the 444 -- thanks again!

Try Mama Bear's Aftershave:

I would also recommend e-mailing Sue beforehand to see if she has any recommendations specifically for you.

Ciao!

I agree, I emailed her to find out exactly which lavender shaving soap was good for me. I also have sensitive skin but not as sensitive as yours. I just go with lavender scented stuff or unscented balms and creams.
I use the Thayer's lavender which hazel and the unscented.

I have two suggestions:

1) Mix witch hazel with some aloe vera gel and a few drops of glycerin. Shake before using. Enjoy. Very little scent. Very calming and good for your skin. Inexpensive.

2) Saint Charles Shave "Hydro" aftershave splash. Very little scent. Feels amazing going on and makes your skin soft and smooth. A very underrated aftershave splash, in my opinion.

Here are few good ones that have not yet been listed, unless I missed them:

Antony's ASB- from Sephora
Lucky Tiger- called a tonic
Weleda ASB
CO Bigelow 1200 ASB

Have fun choosing:001_smile

Indeed, apart from the simple Witch Hazel suggestion, I have to second Speick! It's an amazing aftershave, it has many good things for your skin and the scent is clean and fleeting. Buy it!
