Absolutely Criminal

That may be the wrong question for this forum. Sure the Mach whatever costs alot of money but once you get into DE shaving the costs add up astronomically. We must have every DE product to try them all, it dosen't matter if you already have a stockpile of 500 blades or 20 different soaps!

I can say my shaving costs have NOT gone down.

We get more value for money, fun, performance

All true :D:D:D

I don't see the sales of goo or carts as criminal. If the carts and goo didn't work for the consumer, then they wouldn't sell. There must have been a reason that people deflected from double edge systems when the carts came out. Most guys just want to scrape the whiskers from their face each day, and just want to get it done and over with as soon as possible. Shaving is probably seen by most as a necessary evil rather than something that can be pleasurable under the right circumstances. If they don't want to see past their goo and carts, well that's entirely their right.

To tell the truth, I'm grateful for the carts and goo. If carts weren't around to be the latest and greatest thing for the razor companies, then we still might be paying $67 for 50 blades today. Of course, blades could get that high in the future if carts take hold in the third world. I had better start finding a good blade for me and my Tech and start stockpiling for the shavepocalypse. I'm going to have to calculate how many blades I'll need for the next 60 years. Maybe I should play it safe and figure for 120.

You have to admire their cheek. They sell expensive razors/carts that promise perfect shaves, but then they spin it round and say you'll get better results if you use their expensive goos. And the public lap it up.
It's the shaving equivalent of convenience food. Saves time, but it's chemically processed, expensive and unhealthy.

But they've been doing the same thing since 1949 or so when canned shaving creams became available. How is what they do today any different than it was over 60 years ago?

No way I am saving money, but I found this site, I like BBS shaves, I have something to do now when my wife says we are going to the mall and I get to watch my wife scoop up a handful of Castle Forbes ( enough for twenty shaves) and slather it on her legs in the shower
Life is better with D/E shaving

From what I remember, Erasmic went to crap when they re-formulated..
There are many other shaving sticks out there that preform exceedingly above their price point (Arko, Palmolive, etc) and are still less expensive than proglide, not to mention, they lack the additives they put in canned goop that isn't good for your skin. I was just hoping his endorsement and touting of proglide was sarcasm, not that he doesn't like Erasmic anymore. ;)

I have been doing this since I started shaving, will be 67 come January4. Anyone who thinks this is an inexpensive endeavor are kidding themselves.you always have to buy something else once you have the bug. Razors, brushes, soaps, creams, etc. I have acquired more stuff than I can use in several lifetimes & I will never get rid of anything because I like everything I have acquired so when I die someone will be well fixed as far as shaving. All the best guys. Grayson

You can easily save money with DE shaving if you want to - the products are cheaper, period. Aside from initial investment in non disposable razor and brush of course. I dropped $500 on a big stash of stuff to try when I first started a year and a half ago. Since then I haven't spent a dime, have sold off several products that didn't work for me, and still have a supply of creams, soaps, and blades that will last many, many years.

If anything, my shaving costs have gone up! It started off so innocently, with an inexpensive badger brush, a cheap puck of VDH, and my one razor. Now my razor has 12 brothers, I have 6 shave brushes, about 8 creams and as many soaps, not to mention aftershaves.

Does anyone get anoyed of when you think about the millions of peple wasting money on the latest and greatest shaving gel/foam in a can?

Only last year did discover DE shaving and how inexpensive the soap/cream can be.
I hate to think how much money i've wasted on Nivea Sensitive Skin goop and the Gillete Mach 10 (or whatever is out next) carts.

- £3.99

For £4 you could afford to buy a nice tub of cream that wil last a year.
For £4 you could buy 8 Palmolive/Erasmic sticks.
For £4 you could buy 3 tubes of Real Shaving Co Cream!

Same deal on this side of the pond. I switched in 2010 and noticed shortly thereafter that some stores put the razors and blades in theft-proof cases.

The thing is, people think using old shaving equipment is dangerous. The past two generations have not handled a razor blade.

I don't think I am saving any money. But, I sure enjoy the whole shaving experience using cream and a straight. That's what it is all about for me.

People refuse to acknowledge that a whole lot of gents used to use canned and/or non-lathering shaving cream with their DE razors, with no ill effects.

They also refuse to acknowledge that the negatives associated with cartridge razors were first associated with the introduction and subsequent sales of DE razors. You know, convenience, ease of use, disposable, expensive blades, money was made on the blades, and not the razors.

+1. Yup. My AD's have cost me a small fortune over the years. However, traditional shaving is cheaper than hunting, golf, boating, guns, fishing, cars, motorcycles, and marital infidelity.
