What's new

7 O'CLOCK WEEK (2024) STARTS on the 19th of AUGUST.

Thanks for the info. Was able to locate a different "sleeve" sealed plastic bag, then in a freezer bag and then in a plastic case. Will try next. It all boils down how they were kept at the dealers.
It could really be they were stored at warehouses that had humidity. Years ago I had that type of oxidation on German Wilkinson blades. They shaved normally.

Still rolling with 7oclock week. Another subpar shave with the green today. Going to ditch the blade and try the next one in my brassbird tomorrow. Blade just seems very tuggy and doesn't provide a close shave so I need more passes. Oh well, 5 days left to figure it out.

7'Oclock week evening headshave and face shave.

Preshave: Hot towel and Proaso white pre/post creme
Lather: TOBS tobacco
Brush: Proaso boar
Bowl: Captain's Choice copper heavyweight
Razor: Western Razor High Noon
Blade: Gillette 7'Oclock Super Platiunum (India) first use blade.
Face shave: With the grain, relather. Across the grain, relather. Against the grain and cleanup.
Headshave: Against the grain, relather. Against the grain, relather. Weak hand scout, strong hand shave, hunt and scrape cleanup.
Aftershave: Myrsol Emulsion
Result: DFS. 8.5/10. No burn, no bite, no whiskers left standing. Decent audio feedback, slick lather. This was my first voyage with the High Noon razor. It likes an exact angle and I kept going away from that little window of an angle. So it would abruptly stop cutting whiskers halfway into a shave stroke. It takes a lot of attention to keep this rig at that perfect angle. But a three pass shave on the chiseled face and and three pass shave on the dome was all it took for a barber shop result. And that TOBS tobacco scent is out of this world. But all that aside, this thread is focused on the blade. So hey, the 7'Oclock Super Plat was the driving force behind all of this shaving bliss. Smooth and sharp. Not a hint of a drag or pull. Just plain smooth.

Are those greens the super stainless or permasharp?

Wardonia Standard (France) • 7 O'Clock Yellow (5)
IMG_20240820_181840674.jpg

Paired the trusty 7 O'Clock Yellow on fifth use with a French made Wardonia Standard.

French Wardonias have a completely different baseplate design to the British ones, with an even bigger blade gap and keeping the blade supported across a larger area for better stiffness. They also have the added advantage of taking a standard blade, rather than the British wide or narrow blade posts, meaning no messing around with scissors or hole punches.

The result is absolutely superb, an appreciable step up on the British made ones - which are good in themselves. Worked extremely well with the 7 O'Clock - it would be hard to get a better shave.

Worth noting for anyone looking to buy one that French Wardonia sets might come with either a British or a French made razor, so you need to check carefully - French ones are clearly marked underneath 'Made in France', plus the design difference of the baseplate is obvious if clearly shown.

Haven't seen an Erasmic stick in ages.

OK. You get 10 points for the nice patina on the Bayonetta and 10 for the 7 o'clock blade. But only 2 for that white thing in the foreground.
Think of it as "Ivory." Hopefully it costs a 4th pint to admit that this is my favorite brush, cracked plastic handle and all.

Will pick a different brush tomorrow to give my liver a break.

Sorry...all Zeniths😁 Got carried away a couple years ago.

They are great, but I'm a sucker for most boars and wouldn't mind venturing back into synthetics someday.

Today's Shave: 2nd use 7o'clock permasharp. Cella Bio, Bayonetta razor, Zenith boar. "Acceptable." Finished without irritation, but the blade was clearly done. Had far worse.

I can see why Indian barbers like them, but Super Platinums have been super consistent and are still the better value for me...even at current price vs a bulk green purchase. That very first pass with the greens is pretty nice though. Plenty of shelf space for both.

3rd use Indian Astra sp tomorrow.

August 20 shave:

The same 7 o'clock Super Stainless blade in the same open comb 7 o'clock razor; face lathered ARKO! From a stick with a Vie Long horse hair brush. I wanted to see if I'd get a another shave with a single days growth. Maybe, a bit. But I'll use a different razor next time out. I've included shots of the handle of the razor where it says "7 O'clock".

7 O'clock Week - Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum

TL;DR -
Decent shave, DFS, but extra buffing indicates time to bin the blade

Equipment: Gillette Slim (4), Gillette Black 7 O'clock Super Platinum Blade (6), Ach Brito Mogno Soap

On To The Shave: Shave #6 is the final shave for this GBSP Blade. Ach Brito is a great soap and provided a slick work surface. Although the GBSP turned in a good performance, DFS range, the extra buffing to reach that indicates that it's time to bin this blade. I've tried 2 GBSP blades (thank you, @JCinPA) and have no complaints. Both gave me 6 very good shave.

Switching Blades: I've discovered that I have a tuck of the Yellow 7 O'clocks with the Arabic writing and 2017 stamped on it. Based on @Filudo and @ivan_101 conversation above, I may or may not have decent blades, won't even check, just load and go (won't even wear my glasses, life on the edge, yarr)!!

Life on the edge is if you attach a DE blade to a pencil and try to shave with it. Everything below that is just shaving.

7 O'Clock Week 8/21/24
Razor - 40s NDC Super Speed
Blade - Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum (5)
Brush - Omega/Proraso Boar
Soap - Arko
A/S - Skin Bracer

10/10 BBS
At 5 shaves, this blade still appears to be going strong. I don't think you could ask for a better shave from a brand new blade, and I'll probably finish out the week on Friday with the same setup and see if it falls off at 6 the way it did in my Slim.

Day 3 (for me) of 7 O’Clock Week:

8/21/24 am pre-work shave with Russian 7 O’Clock green

Pre: shower
Soap: Stirling Orange Chill
Brush: 20+ year old Vulfix (“Ol’ Floppy”)
Razor: Game Changer .68
Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless (Russian - 3)
A/S: Gillette sensitive skin aftershave gel
Moisturizer: Kiehl’s Facial Fuel

Face: 2.9/3
Neck: 2.8/3
Nicks/irritation and weepers: 3
Zen: 1/1
9.7/10

Another comfortable shave from the Russian green. Quick 2-pass shave with a little cleanup on chin and jawline. DFS++ face, DFS neck, no irritation or weepers. I feel like this blade can probably stretch one more shave but with it being 7 O’Clock week, I may just opt to load up a black ninja tomorrow and hold this Russian green for its last voyage over the weekend.

7 O'Clock Week - Sharp Edge - 8/21/24

Pre:
Cold water rinse, PAA Cube 2.0
Razor: 1959 Super Speed (Blue Tip)
Blade: 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (4)
Brush: SOC Boar
Soap: MWF (New Formula)
Post: Cold water rinse, Thayers
Splash: Aqua Velva Ice Blue (Italy)

IMG_1361.jpg

This was the 4th shave with the SharpEdge in the same razor. Overall impressions were positive. Still fairly smooth as I remembered from the previous three shaves but sharpness was starting to wane. A little mild tugging on the mustache and chin but no cuts or nicks. DFS+ any day of the week. This blade was decent, and would probably do best in an adjustable where you can dial it in. I need to run through about 3 more of these before making any final judgements but I know it has a bit of a cult status.

Also, I just have to mention that when it comes to the scent of Mitchell's Wool Fat, I don't like it... I love it. It pairs really really nicely with "blue" splashes and the AV is a shoo-in. Cheers All!

Missed getting a picture today, but better shave than the last two. Switched from wolfman to brassbird but the rest of the kit remained the same. 8/10. Still tuggy, blade doesn't feel sharp, but no blood today which is an improvement over last night.
