6mm vs. 9mm filters

I've pretty much decided I'm a filter guy. I have mostly cobs, with 1 Grabow and 1 Savinelli, my only non-filtered pipes being three hand-me-downs from my uncle. In searching for my next pipe, I thought I'd open it up to the 9mm pipes. Can anyone tell me how those filters are vs. the 6mm that I use now?

Thanks,

Dave

I think charcoal filters are only available in 9mm...so that's one bit of variety not available in 6mm. I imagine that you could easily make an adapter to use your favorite 6mm filters, if such an adapter isn't on the market already.

The 9mm is what my Stanwell uses, and it makes a difference in the character of the tobacco's flavor because of the charcoal. This is not something bad per se, but it is different than what the paper 6mm filters do for me. I find the 6mm just take the edge off any tongue burn. The 9mm cuts that plus it seems to make the baccy taste cleaner, if that makes any sense. I do know I have less aftertaste with the 9mm.

I have a couple of 9mm pipes and enjoy them. I use Dr Perl filters and find they draw well and give a nice clean neutral taste.

I have a Polinski rhodesian and a Stanwell Specialty. They both smoke great, but the Polinski is the better pipe. Artisan made with good fit and finish, and smoke flawlessly. You can usually grab them on eBay between $60-$100 new depending on style. He also makes and sells nonfilter pipes so check the titles and descriptions.
