You can do a lot with a MacArthur. I was seriously looking at one at a store for 10 solid minutes last weekend.
I used to make them out of cobs found in the field. Field corn is engineered to have a small cob and therefore probably not the best for pipe making, but it was fun and they smoked so ...meh. Served their purpose.
Having owned a bodyshop in my younger days I find this hilarious

Finally able to get around to starting my modifications. Not the best image but hoping to have black accents and a light brown plaster when it’s all said and done.

First sanding nearly complete on the cob. This pipe is going to a friend who has just recently been diagnosed with ALS. He’s a military friend I had known my whole Navy career and continue to be friends with to this day.
Nice! Might have to give this a try. I had forgotten about cob modding haha. Going to dig in and see if I have some unused cobs still. Then maybe tweak em a little. Would be a fun lathe project

Yeah, i've kind of stalled on it too. Hoping to get back on it before too long.
This unexpected hospital stay put a monkey wrench in my plans as well. Luckily, I'm to the point where it's just about ready for staining. Fancy stems and dowel woodworking may have to wait for now, but modded is modded, right?

Finished the sanding and now onto the finish staining. Doing a sanding b/t coats as well.

Got this one done for my friend. Working on mine now for the contest. It’ll have an olive shank and either a long stem or short one. Still trying to figure that piece out.

Almost done! Just need a stem and that should be coming in on Saturday (I hope)! Happy Thanksgiving y’all!
