1/4 Turn to Lock on Slim not working

I have a Slim with a chattery blade and I've just noticed that the 1/4 lock doesn't seem to move anything, yet the TTO knob does twist the appropriate amount till it hits the stop. Am I correct in presuming that the blade plate / side bars should move into their final position, which is almost up to the blade, when the 1/4 turn lock twist functions correctly?

My Slim has a significant gap between the blade plate and the blade (viewed from the side) which doesn't seem to move when doing the final twist. Seems to me like the lock twist should move the blade plate into the full upright and locked position which should be visually picked up. I wish I had another Slim to compare.

You may have what is referred to as an "under-clocked razor"...at some point someone had turned the adjuster dial below 1 and back to 9 again.

I had a Fatboy (pictured) that exhibited the same symptoms you're describing. It had no "quarter turn" to lock. After much consideration I went ahead and dialed it up to 9, depressed the small detent spring with a toothpick and rotated it back to 1 again. And that was all it took...fully functional once more.

You can see in the pic the "blade bars". On a properly functioning razor these are close to the bottom of the tray when on the 1 position and move up gradually when at the 9 position to approximately what you see here. Good luck.

oh cool. thank you thank you. I feel like this is the right answer because It feels free in every way, it simply runs out of room...I will implement your mod and report back. This place is cool because of shavers like Lane aka Highspeedlane.

Lane, I used the clicker depresser trick to good effect. I was able to un clock it and reset it. I also unthreaded the collar in the process of recalibration. Good to go this morning with a fresh GSB on setting #3 and a great start to my Saturday. Thank you.

Excellent!

My adjuster definitely makes a difference. It surely functions. Sunday's shave was a bit of a butcher shop affair on 4 with a GSB on day 2.

Today's shave was on setting 3 using the same blade, and the shave was fantastic, clean and left me very pleased.

Lighter Fluid does some magical things when it comes to cleaning. I watched my Dad deep clean his 45 with Lighter Fluid.
