A Rarity?

So I am hangin out at home, like the cheap, lazy undergrad I am, when I happen across this, tucked away on a little shelf with some barely used Old Spice:

I don't know how to say that name, but I do know that is was bottled in Canada, because it says so on the back:

"Essential oil imported from Sweden, bottled and packages in Canada. Scannon, Mississauga, Ontario, L4T 3B6"

The font was two small to get a picture, but that's all it says, plus some stuff in French.

It is a musky and woodsy fragrance, with a hint of burliness. Can anyone fill me in on some history, or just some general info? I have had no luck with a search of the site, but basenotes.net yielded a few results. Of course, Clubman Rob should be here soon to help out, I expect.

Kanon (pronounced "cannon") was a riff on the original Fabergé Brut. It was pretty popular in Canada but not so much here. I can't date it based on the photo, because the bottle barely changed over the course of four decades. Is there any stamps or markings on the bottom of the bottle? It's fairly common either way; a bottle turns up about once a week or so on Ebay.

This was quite high class stuff when it came out in the 60s. I have a bottle of the cologne and I love it - in fact, Kanon has gotten me MANY compliments on dates. One girl a few summers ago couldn't pull herself away from my neck/ear. Enjoy!

As to your question of rarity - no, not really, can be bought easily online. What's somewhat rare about Kanon is simply that it's not a popular fragrance and therefore it's a scent that many people should notice.

Carl, I have to tell you that whenever I read your posts, I imagine Kolchak at his desk at INS banging out the posts on his typewriter. I briefly tried to imagine Kolchak on a date, having just splashed on a hearty dose of Kanon, but I got stuck on that one.

Maybe if he was interviewing a showgirl concerning the recent rash of mummy stranglings.

All I remember about Kanon is the rather infamous subliminal magazine ad in the 1970's. I'd post it but it is NSFW. easily Googled tho....

Thanks for the input guys. I used a little this morning, and the scent after application is much different than the scent right out of the bottle. But it is good. I am going to use it for a while, just to see how it wears on me.

You guys are killin' me! HILARIOUS.:001_smile

Now you've got me thinking: what would Kolchak wear? After thinking about it for a good hard while, I actually came back to Kanon! Not a bad choice for Carl! It's just enough outside of the mainstream for him. Now, Vincenzo on the other hand, more difficult!
