Dignity and the Wet shave

Poland in Style

How little sleep does a person need before they start to hallucine while awake?

I feel as though I've been testing that for the past five days. Two nights partying 'until 5 am, plus a red-eye flight. In total, prior to last night, I think I've been averaging about 2.5 hours of sleep per day.

Yesterday evening, we finally arrived at my mother-in-law's apartment and I slept for 10 hours. I felt like my old self upon waking.

Did a bit of shopping this morning and found a lovely little perfume boutique that had a great selection of colognes.

I smell like a Mexican house if I'll repute on a Friday night.

We got back to the apartment and loaded a Wizamet into my new copper Stando Mokosz razor. Having planned ahead, I applied a bit of D.R. Harris Arlington and face lathered with my travel brush, an AP Shave Co with Muhle STF knot.

Great shave and the copper razor with brass stand looks great:

Nice looking razor!

Had a great few of Shaves with my Stando. Definitely aggressive. Definitely efficient. Today was an FIS of 4, but boy was it close...even with a day 3 Wizamet. I won't know until EOD, but would estimate the overall rating at either a 94 or 95.

This is the first copper razor I've shaved with. Interesting fact: Copper has a distinctive smell that is quite noticeable while using a razor made from it. I feel like I'm brazing copper pipe whenever I use it.

Just got back from the condolence call to my wife's cousin's family. This was what I would call an "old school visit". Her cousin, my son and I killed a fifth of lemon flavored moonshine in about 90 minutes...of laughing and crying and sharing of photos.

Very cathartic.

Walking up the 3 flights of stairs to my mother-in-law's apartment afterwards was...challenging.

All i can say is thank God for Apple auto correct.

Will be prone for an hour or two...

Post script on the Stando copper Mokosz...

12 hours after today's shave, my face was still a solid DFS. At 14 hours, I'm at CCS. Overall score is a 95.

A beautiful razor and a great value.

I would note that the finishing work on the copper is a bit basic and the edges are a tad sharp. That said, it was totally worth the $180, including the patina'd brass stand.

Just took an Ambien and crawled into bed. Alarm set for 5:30am...11:30 pm NY time. I'm going to be one jet-lagged-hot-mess on sunday.

Shaved with a Gillette Fusion Pro glide this evening. You know what (don't hate me)? It was a fine and close shave with an FIS of 3+. I'm guessing it will still be socially acceptable when I go through security tomorrow in Madrid. Went with a stick of TOBS Sandlewood, some Alum, and a splash of Creed Neroli Sauvage.

This was a really bizarre trip. I need a few days to process it...A magnificent wedding, a mourning call, providing care to my mother-in-law, great food, great sight seeing. A false alarm while over the Atlantic. A black bear taking out my garbage. Three languages. And, not nearly enough sleep. My older son and his Fiancé came home with Covid (They're fine)

A lot of stuff packed into that paragraph...a lot of stuff packed into the past week.

Oh yeah, my wife is staying another week...or three.

I'm going to spend the next week sitting in the corner, playing with my razors and eating nothing but 'mercan food- you know, Sushi, Chicken Parm, take out Chinese and Indian.

Note, while there were moments of sadness on the trip, there were just as many moments of true joy and learning

All of it clouded by just a bit of jet lag...and both types of moonshine.

I shaved a fortune
When we were in Bali back in Feb/March, we found a great restaurant that had 2 for 1 mango margaritas from 5 to 7PM. They also had the best dessert I’ve ever had in my life. We enjoyed 3 meals there and were so glad we used their version of Uber. I wasn’t in any shape to drive after any of those meals. Of course, we’d never consider renting a car there. Driving on the left in “special” SE Asia traffic.
