Is Vikings blade razor a Weishi?

I can't find reviews for this TTO razor other than from buyers on Amazon. Is it a re-branded Weishi? Has anyone bought one? Looks like they are charging $33 for a $9 razor.

Thanks in advance!

hmm good question. It does look a bit like a Weishi, except that the handle knurling looks a bit different. The Viking Blade one appears to have some 'finer' shaping on the handle. Other than that it does maybe look like a Weishi, also given that it comes in that Weishi style plastic case. Hard to say. It may also be one of those other 'budget' brands re-branded.

In saying all I said above, it does say they use 'Swedish materials' (whatever that means), and has a lifetime warranty. Surely that's not a Weishi. Mentions its not a cheap metal knock off. So unless they're outright lying, I daresay it is a nicer razor than a Weishi. Does look pretty nice actually. I like the handle.

For the razor, currently we have 2 manufacturing factories running at full capacity: one in Pakistan and one in China. One more will be opened soon in Japan for another model. The razor blades are made in and imported from Sweden.

Net weight is about 70g (or 2.45 oz)
Length is 3.74"

Could still be made by Weishi

IMHO, if I were you I'd do some number crunching and either buy a Baili BD17 or a Jagen David B40 - whichever has the best price for the razor and the deal on shipping
I just happened to prefer the rose gold finish, but the chrome is probably just as good

I have one, and it is a decent TTO razor with very good blade alignment - much better than my Parker 22R. I tend to reach for one of my three-piece razors nowadays, but if the Vikings Blade was all I had, I'd have no qualms using it. Comes with a lifetime warranty, too.

And if you look at the other Viking listed on Amazon (the three piece one), it looks very much like the new Baili Tech clone that Italian barber is currently giving away for free and will start changing $10 soon to go along with their other $10 rebranded Baili TTO.

See my 1st comment on this thread

So according to what the Viking folks wrote on the Amazon site, the Baili TTO and Tech clone are cheap Chinese clones of THEIR razors. However the Viking are made of quality material and has a lifetime warranty. And if you believe that, I have land in the Volcano District of Hawaii Island to sell you that is guaranteed to double in 10 years.

It's actually rather well reviewed on Amazon, with 96% of 1270 reviews in the 4-5 star rating range. Curiously one of the chief "advantages" of its "patented micro-comb system" TTO design is the ability to change blades in ~5 seconds versus "50-60 seconds" for a 3 piece DE razor (LOL).

Made in Pakistan/China. May be worth a shot for the adventurous DE explorer if nothing else for the budget price and good reviews.

As I said before, the TTO razor - they call it the Chieftain now - is a decent razor. Supposedly, it's made from a chrome-plated brass/bronze alloy. It's better than the similarly price Parker TTOs, IMO. It's not my daily driver because I prefer my Feather AS-D2 and iKon X3. I can't comment on the three-piece Godfather.

The new shaving cream Vikings Blade just came out with is very good, too, albeit a bit overpriced at almost $20.00. But if you can get past the macho he-man marketing blather, the products aren't half-bad.

Sorry, but what they say is true. They own the patent. But more convincing is the fact that I ordered a Baili to replace my beloved Vikings Blade Chiefton that fell on my tile floor, and while they certainly LOOK identical, the closer you examine them, the more differences you notice in manufacturing. Also, the Baili simply does NOT shave like the Vikings Blade. I am too cheap to pay the $33 to replace my Vikings Blade but I sure do miss it. Best damn razor I ever owned and I got it for $19.99 on sale during Christmas. There is literally not another one like it.

There is no patent. He claims one is pending, but won't give you the name or application number if asked. FYI, patents and patent applications are searchable public records. If you search for it with any number of names - product, person, company, etc. - you'll come up with nothing.

1) The Viking razors do have their own branding on them. They could have ordered the razors from China with slightly different specifications.

2) Could be due to QC issues.

3) Multiple factories could be making the same razor in China. Who knows.

I personally don't believe a word of their marketing.

A patent on a DE razor? Since 1985? Other razors are clone of theirs?

They also don't have a real address on their web site.

^True Dat.

The Chinese factory prints the Vikings Blade name & logo on the case. They've been selling baby toys since 1985. Not shaving stuff, though. There is no U.S. patent or even a patent pending. The same razors are sold by four other vendors that I'm aware of (including Italian Barber) for as little as $9.95.

Thanks, I ordered a couple of the gold Baili BD17s from that same ebay seller for $7.99/each shipped. I love trying out these low-cost razors from China; I've had good luck with the Rimei and Weishi, so I have high hopes for this one.
