New to me Strop

I decided after asking a question here about vintage strops to grab the one I have been thinking about. Of course after bringing it home I had to look to see if I could find any information on it because it's a Canadian maker. I actually found the original Jones Bros catalogue from I believe 1923 with the exact strop with matching model (82-91) number and a price list. I thought is was pretty neat And wanted to share. Does anyone happen to know what shell horsehide is?

Shell was considered the king of all strop materials for many many years. I still consider it to be so. On the rump of the horse there is an oval on each side that actually sits under the skin. You can read more here:
