Frye Boots

What is general opinion on Frye Boots? I was browsing their site, and see a variety of styles that look interesting. I ended up on their site while browsing for a Chelsea boot, however I’m not necessarily tied to that style.

I’m guessing they are all made in China, or at least not in the US? That’s not a huge deal, however I’d hope that the price would reflect that. My brother has a pair he’s had for a few years that are leather soled and look to be recraftable.

Does anyone have experience with them?

Haven't had a pair for some time. The ones I had in the past were very high quality and long-lasting. So these have a good reputation with me. May get some once I stop working (with need for standard "office-type" footwear.)

Yea, thats my general feeling. They have a good reputation, however I get the feeling that they may be riding on that reputation alone now. Unfortunately, those US made Chelsea are not exactly the style I'm looking for. I'm almost looking for more of the Beetle boot, without the high heel, and in an actual Chelsea style (not side zip).

Though I'm reluctant to pay $300 for boots that have been purposefully "aged". It appears those boots are Goodyear Welted, but I don't know whats going on with the sole.

I found a pretty interesting company online...Seems to be a German shoe maker called Shoepassion.com. http://www.shoepassion.com/mens-boots/no-661.html. Has anyone ever heard of them?

Ordered some Frye's once. They were very nice but extremely narrow and I wear regular width in everything. I don't think they even had a wide option. My research concluded that they are narrow as a whole across their line. I sent them back and didn't even attempt to break in.

Good to know. I have a narrow foot, so that should be OK.

I think I'm going to scope out what kind of sales go for these for a bit to see if I can get a deal.
