Advice needed for honing a NOS razor.

I got lucky on Ebay and picked up this Joseph Allen&sons on a buy it now for $25.00



It is a 5/8 and looks like it is a wedge or near wedge and looks like it was never honed

My question is what is the best way to go about honing this razor. My set up is a King 1K/6K and a 12K Stone.

Should I use tape for the first hone.

Or given my inexperience at honing should I send it out to get its first edge?

Have you checked the angle of the exising bevel yet?

If it's NOS (not sure from the pic), I would send it out to be honed. Practice on some other ones first.

I'd rub it on the 1K and see what happens.

I definitely prefer tape for wedges. Takes the guess work out. If it is a true wedge then two layers maybe in order. Near wedges are usually fine with just one.
