What's new

New to Straights.

Hi gents,

I hope everyone is having a solid day. I am starting to get into straight edge shaving and had a quick question about the strop. I notice that there are few paste/rubs for various parts (I think one for conditioning and for hone replacement?). Does this sound correct and are these needed? Sorry for the thread additional but I couldn't find a solid answer...

If it helps I have a wetstone coming as well....

Thanks,
Bear

Depends on the strop and what you're looking to do.
If you want to sharpen the edge using pastes - then the sharpening pastes are essential.
If you have a dried out cowhide strop - some conditioner might help. Might does not mean 'will' - depends on the leather and the finish.
Do not use anything of the sort on a plain horsehide strop though.
