-The Crabtree and Evelyn soap challenge-

I can't comment on the very latest formulations but I consider the previous 2 soap versions, especially the potassium version (compared to the later sodium one) very good, but not great soaps.
Scent is an individual thing and Sienna and Nomad are my favourites in the C&E line.

Don't know why, maybe it's the soft water, but I have no trouble getting a nice slick lather. Somewhere in an older thread on B&B I have included some C&E lather porn.

Just to demonstrate how this is all a very YMMV thing, I consider the older C&E's a notch better than everyones darling, Cella.

The OP also mentioned Cade.

L'Occitane has stores in some of the big shopping centres and DJ's carries some of their products as well.

You can also buy direct from them on line and if you subscribe to their site they will send you special offers now and then with free shipping occasionally.

Cade is a step up from C&E.

I am in exactly the same situation as you. I'm in Taiwan, and the soap game is limited to basically three retailers; Taylors of Old Bond Street (hideously priced here), Crabree & Evelyn (very limited range), and The Body Shop (lol). And DE supplies are virtually non-existent. I also know what it's like to be stuck on the inconveniently remote Great Island Continent (I'm Australian).

I have just ordered four soaps from Mama Bear's Soaps; 5oz each of Amaretto Royale, Black Coffee, Sandalwood Vanilla, and Eucalyptus. Pick one, and when it arrives here I'll send it to you for the cost of postage from Taiwan to Australia. Should save you some cash.

I tried that C&E when my wife bought me some as a gift. Man you're right crap lather. The bowl is the nicest part. I was so disappointed but didn't want to tell the wife so I suffer with it occasionally.

Good luck Dave- I struggled through most of a puck a few years back... and it was a bit of a struggle after using some great soaps. Life is too short to shave with anything which is sub-par.

+2. My experience also. Some soaps are best used in the bath. Unfortunately, C&E belongs in the bath soap category IMO. :thumbdown:thumbdown

Looks like I'm a bit late since I just saw this thread. I just started a new puck of C&E Nomad, but I'm cheating - I have the old formula. It's no longer my favorite soap but it's still very good and my favorite scent.

This thread took my by surprise.

I stop in to my local C & E and get what ever is on sale at the time. Last time they had Sienna shaving cream in the tube and Sandalwood shaving cream in the jar so I bought one of each. Both of these have performed brilliantly especially the Sandalwood, in fact I only use the tiniest amount but get gobs and gobs of thick rich lather. I almost feel like I could leave the brush in the bowl overnight, add a bit more water the next day and have enough to shave with again. I've used the sandalwood and sienna soaps in the past as well and have never had a problem getting them to lather either. Currently I use the West Indian Lime cream in the tube daily and still get excellent performance. Maybe my water is really soft or my old Van Der Hagen boar brush is better than I thought but based on what I've been reading, I'll count my blessings as I've had great luck with everything I've tried thus far. The Indian Sandalwood is never on sale when I go but I'm keeping my eyes peeled.

This is almost exactly my expereience. I picked up a tube of Sienna and jar of Sandalwood on clearance at the C&E at the local outlet mall. Both have great, easy lather and great scent. I was disappointed in the C&E West Indian Lime hard soap, great scent, by far the best lime scent I have experienced, but could not get it to lather ever.

The west indian limes is a different formulation and most people say it is not good at all!
But honestly the previous version of nomad which i happen to have is awesome.
Ok it is not the best lather but it is good!In fact very very good and the scent is tremendous.Oreintal fougere which is quite robust and lingers!
