Coticules: do slurry stones matter?

The La Veinnette I have seems to be fairly fast? It darkens moderately on just water. I was doing a touch up last night on my BBW using heavy slurry, then after getting the edge fairly keen, I moved onto the La Veinette on plain water where it seemed to have dulled my edge a little bit. Not sure whether to go back and re-touch up on the BBW and dillute down to water , then take it to the coticule or to dull the razor on glass and go through a full honing progression? I wish I had more razors to practice on.

It may have developed a bit of a false edge. Do some small oval shaped strokes when you are done finishing to clear them. 3 or 4 ovals per side and do 3-5 sets should be enough. Use only the weight of the blade itself and no more. Also they should be wider than long.
Its the side to side motion that is helping most.

That - and check both stones for flatness with a quality straight edge. Check across both axes of the stone.
