Determinining how much tape to use on a wedge

Just curious as to how you guys determine how much tape to use on a wedge? I'll use 2 layers if it's got good hone wear and I want a small bevel. 3 layers if the honewear is terrible. I'm starting to think dropping back to 1 layer for near wedges might be a good idea to preserve the proper bevel angle.

I try to use as few layers as possible but I always measure the angle of the bevel so I know what I'm dealing with.
