Which boot do you prefer?

I'm assuming these are for wearing with jeans or trousers, not a suit. If that's the case, I'd go with the pebble just for visual interest. If you don't have a pair of dedicated brown shoes for your suit(s), the second might be a better option, but only marginally. Both are gorgeous, and you can't really go wrong either way.

I much prefer the pebble grain. Although more casual, I think it has more "style". I would leave "versatile" to any old dress shoe.
 
Glad you picked up the pebble grain. Wear won't be as apparent, and in fact will make them look nicer as you wear and polish.
 
I think the pebble grain. I have two pair of Allen Edmonds Malvern chukka boots, same brown color, one plain, one pebble grain. The pebble grain looks classier in these boots. As with most pebble grain the graining thins out over the toe where the leather is stretched over the toe of the last.
