Alex, you're right. I shouldn't allow my zeal to override common sense re my current Fatip/91R handle admix. I'll wait for the new one to come in. If it is flawed, I am moving on to a Joris; if, however, the 'incoming' Fatip fits other handles as other Chrome Grand Fatips, I'll feel the love. Time to be a patient wet shaver--Thanks for the sensible suggestion. Had a great shave this morning with my Tech/Feather blade. Awaiting the new Chrome Fatip Grande... will update after I've taken receipt.

My Chrome Fatip Grande is 'out for delivery'. I'll have later today and fire it up tomorrow. I'll let you guys know if my EJ and Parker barrels fit (fingers crossed this time 'round) when I get it late this afternoon. The mantra for the day is, "Fatip--come home."

First the good news: I got it; the not-so-good news is that the lug fits only the Parker (91R) barrel and Feather AS-D1 barrel. EJ barrels don't fit. It appears, judging from the guys who have their Fatips for some time, that Fatip is now using a narrower lug than it had been using. Perhaps they have a different head manufacturer--I don't know. I also had to watch how the blade locked up: I had to hold it to ensure equal blade exposure on either side of the head. It may shave great, I'll find out tomorrow a.m. However, I'd say my next move will either be an R41 or a Joris, and I'm leaning toward a Joris as I feel the R41 may be too much razor for me. Even if the Fatip shaves great, no more slipshod manufacturing for me and no more Fatips. I simply cannot say that I 'love' the newest run of Fatip razors, I may, however, like it if it delivers under 'load' tomorrow. Let me off this soap box before I get knocked off.

I use Omega boar brushes, and prefer them over my badger brushes, but I ordered (and received today) a Semogue SOC--I've read so many favorable reviews on B&B that I felt compelled to try one. I'll give it several weeks to break in before making a judgement call on the SOC. I found an Omega that I love, 80080 Beehive Variant: great size and great lather for about $11.00 U.S. I'm sure the Fatip will deliver when I shave with it, but the company's rationale for using the odd-sized lug escapes me.

Tried the new Chrome Fatip Grande this a.m.--just didn't feel right. I put it down, may end up 'chucking' this hay rake, and reached for my Tech. I'm done with Fatip, guys. It's an official SK, for you code guys. I should have been keying CQD with this razor. The Gillette Old OC I had tried actually delivered a far smoother shave--the Fatip just didn't feel right.
Wow, DEGuy, you went from "FaTip is awesome" to "I'm done with FaTip" in, like, a week. What happened?
The first one I bought cuts great and I like the way it shaves, but has a lug issue re fitting handles. The second one I got, Chrome Grande, still had a lug issue, and this one didn't position the blade properly, so I centered it as best I could and the shave just didn't feel comfortable and the razor wasn't cutting uniformly. I'm done buying Fatips but will use the first one I bought with the original handle, I won't, however, be buying any more Fatips or trying to fit them with other handles. It's simply not worth the expense. The first one I bought cuts great and I'll use it--but I cannot alter the handle I use on it without wrapping the lug with Teflon tape to get another handle to fit and I dislike the cheap stock handle. Anyway, I'm done with trying to fit a barrel to a Fatip and with buying Fatips. I still like OC razors, but I will not invest in any way in Fatips.
I have to say as I said on either this or another thread that my neighbor got a Chrome Fatip Grande last week and it fits different barrels and the blade sits properly in the head. I can't figure out Fatip's manufacturing and quality control.

The FaTip is a great razor head, but with a heavier handle. I would never use a FaTip with the original handle. its too crude in balance. You must try a Joris which is what many love once they try it.

Thats why I started this thread, they have fit/handle issues.....get a Joris, 10 times better.
I am getting more and more tempted to try one (Joris). I just wish they sold only the head, I am not a fan of their handles to be honest. They're too elegant looking for me, and a bit bulbous...odd thing to say I realize but it's the best way to convey how I feel about them. Depending on how happy I am when I receive my replated nickel Fatip back from Dave @ West Coast Razors, I just might get one.
