Ebay Auction Mismatched Case and Black (Blue?) Beauty

That looks like a regular black Super Adjustable in a case for a Gold Slim Adjustable (aka Aristocrat). Nothing much to write home about (especially since it looks like one of the last Super Adjustables judging by the plastic base plate), and I'm shocked it went for that much. Maybe the bidders are seeing something I'm not.

I can't remember what chemical is known for fading the black resin if you try to use if for cleaning, but I know the thread is around here someplace.
There were also a couple of super adjustables that had been painted blue.

Did the SA ever come with a blue handle or is it just chemical fading or paint? The wiki states it did come in blue and has a picture but I haven't seen any other than this auction. Interesting that the seller confirmed it was black.

I'll do some research and see when that was added. It predates this year's server migration.

EDIT: We don't have the page history, sorry. So all I can say is that the picture and blue handle claim were added sometime before January. The picture may have been copied from http://www.foroafeitado.com/foro/tu...-afeitar-gillette-ajustables-236/?language=en and there is some more discussion here: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/242773-Blue-handled-super-adjustable (and of course the infamous "blue boy" incident).

In http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/135277-Aftermarket-Mod our own 82R100 seems to say that the blue razor pictured is the same individual razor as the "blue boy", which was known to be a user mod. But I can't find an original picture from the "blue boy" auction. If I could, that would put paid to this whole thing as far as I'm concerned. But otherwise I feel like we're trying to prove a negative, which is a bit tricky.

For now, I'll edit the wiki page to be less conclusive.

Thanks mblakele for pulling all that info together! Wonder if someone on the boards won that auction. Seems to have gone too high for a casual collector.

The original 'blue boy' auction was for a different adjustable. I can't remember if it was a slim or super, but it had a metal baseplate.

edit: after reviewing the thread, it appears to have been a 69 super adjustable.

Did a little more research.
It was modded by banjophd, known here as quailrunner.
It was this one.

I had some conversations with the seller regarding this some time ago. I also spoke to her on the previous incarnation of this auction, where she described the razor as an aristocrat.

She has a faulty camera. The razor is black in colour.

I feel for the poor fool who purchased it @ $87

it should have been clear on the original auction TBH, it's a pretty damning image if the razor is infact black. The seller would be better off using MS Paint.

Why if the handle is black is the adjustment plate obviously black?

If it's a camera problem, then the handle is faded in the least. Does the blade pack appear to be the correct color?

Perhaps comparing the blade dispenser to a known example can shed some light on the situation?

I am one of the people who read the WIKI and actually believed there were Blue handle SA's out there.

I have seen more than one faded by Oxyclean or some other cleaning product.

thats a beast would be nice to see them come from the factory like that blue. ive never heard of a blue one though
