What to look for when buying Gillette FB and red tip SS

What did you pay for the whole bucket? I would have offered five or six hundred bucks on the spot. You could clean them up, pick the best one of each type to keep, and sell the others off. Get a nice collection for free that way.

The pile of oddballs including the President and the two Senator's would most likely finance the whole haul if I was inclined to sell them, I'm not though. As a new wet shaver I love the idea of an instant collection and am going to keep the best specimens of each and give some as X-mas gifts. I'm having so much fun trying these out, not so much fun cleaning them. First I started off with the rightfully famous fat boy, next was the red tip. Tonight I'm thinking of trying the Stahly Live Blade or the black handled Schick. Any recommendations on what I should try next?

Man, I have been drooling all over my keyboard while reading this thread. These pics are pure razor porn. Congrats on a great find, and keep the pics of the cleaned razors coming.

Is this what they mean by putting a razor into rotation?

Man you are one fortunate lucky Son of a Gun...

Those last pictures look outstanding...:w00t:

You did a terrific job of cleaning them and can no doubt make you a little spending money when you decide which ones to keep and which ones to sell...

Again congratulations on a great find...

I don't think I will have to tell you to ...

Enjoy your shave...

I took a break from cleaning today and did thoroughly enjoy my first real 4 pass shave as a newbie with the red tip. Wow, incredible smoothness and not one nick!

I can't wait to show this thread to my lovely wife. She just rolls her eyes when I come home with 3 or 4. If I walked in with a 5-gallon bucket full of razors, she'd faint. I'd probably just fire up the turkey fryer and start boiling 'em.

:001_tt1: Wow. If you keep in mind that only one superspeed may serve you a lifetime, if you tread it kindly, don`t you regret that you have just one face to shave? I really like the picture with all the superspeeds. Maybe this is the last chance to see so many of them on one picture since the stopped production.

Well, I've only been looking for a couple of weeks but I haven't yet found one single safety razor in a junk shop, antique store, thrift store, etc. I ran across a handful of straights but I know nothing about them. However, I did find over two dozen shaving mugs at a Salvation Army store for 25 cents apiece. I bought only one, a common Old Spice mug from the 70s. A couple may have been genuine antiques with gold trim and raised images on the sides. No occupationals. This place is 90+ miles from me one way so I won't be back there for a while.

My wife says don't bother to come home with a bucket full of razors. :frown: I thought my collection was growing rather rapidly getting 14 in one week but that's only a drop in the BUCKET. :biggrin1:

If you decide to sell any of Senators please let me know. I like the way they shave (tried British 1930 Aristo) and looking for one as I travel frequently

Hey,

Just noticed the number of your posts...

WELCOME TO THE FORUM. Come often and stay long.

Only 14 razors...Good Start and you're going to have to learn how to get by SWMBO with some good excuses. (i.e. That ole thing, it's been around for a while). Technically you won't be lieing since the DE has been around for a while. Just not in your house.

Have a good one...

And enjoy your shave...

Wowwwwww,

My jaws are reaching my knees!

I end up in this threat trying to found out what should I get as my first DE razor and I see the DE heaven !.

Just the way they look, I like the slim, fat boy, and the red tip. which one should I get ?

MTgrayling, if you decide start selling them I could be interested in a slim / fb.

Technically, if you send him a PM and he sends you a PM, you haven't broken any rules. He just can't "openly" sell until he meets the required posts (etc.).

But it doesn't really take that much to comply with the rules and it won't take long to meet the requirement...Then hold on to your hat, there should be razors flying everywhere. I would have a hard time trying to decide which to keep and which to sell. Talk about a rotation from Hell...:wink2:
