What's new

Top 5 DE Confessions

1. My beard is still mostly peach fuzz, so I can get away with shaving twice a week and nobody would notice.
2. I love fruity scents much more than manly scents (I want to smell LIKE a man, not smell A man)
3. With said peach fuzz beard, I throw out blades much sooner than they need to be thrown out, but I can really only feel a difference on my chin, or see a difference by seeing what it missed.
4. Almond and vanillas are my kryptonite
5. I prefer my Parker synthetic to my silvertip...

1. I have no interest in any bar shavers, only OC.
2. I cannot get a comfortable shave from the vaunted Astra SP.
3. I could happily use exclusively floral-scented soaps.
4. The corners of my mouth are almost never actually BBS, and I don't consider them in determining how close my shave was.
5. I use at least as much water with a cream as I do with my soaps.

1. As great as I think I am at DE shaving, and despite all my cool, confident talk, I just can't shave with a Feather Blade
2. There have been a few occasions in the past few years where I have used a Fusion
3. I don't tell many people about my 'obsession' with this whole thing
4. I've been using ordinary bar soap to shave with for weeks now - and getting great results (don't get me started)
5. The only DE i have used for the past 2 years is the Sledgehammer, even though I own about 14 DEs

I am a newbie to B&B but not wet shaving.
1. The first DE razor I bought and used was a Merkur Futur with a Silvertip Brush. I hate them both.
2. I prefer a Gillette Tech that I got when dad passed. I swear he used it to shave callouses on his feet. I cleaned and sterilized!
3 My second favorite is a 64 Gillette TTO
4 I have always used Merkur blades until tonight. I bought some ASTRA SPs Wow no hair pulling, no blood, no irritation. Never thought to try another blade until I joined here.
5. I prefer my $5 boar brush to the silvertip badger and I face lather with craft soap from eveningshadefarms.com.
Bonus: I love this site.

1. I recently ordered a DE89 from England
2. I recently ordered MWF and Tabac from England
3. I recently ordered Cella and some Feather, Personna and Polsilver blades from Australia
4. SWMBO and I will visit Australia soon and I can collect all of the above
5. SWMBO doesn't yet know I bought anything...

1. I am hoping that once I receive my new Gem Junior Bar and Canadian 1932 Tech head, then I will not have RAD-driven eBay browsing sessions late into the night.
2. I have now jumped onto the FPAD bandwagon, with 2 pens and several ink samples on order. As with vintage shaving, this is something that I want to like. I am generally hopeful, unless fountain pens require regular maintenance that conflicts with my inherent desire to be a slug.
3. I felt compelled to resurrect this thread as I now enjoy the humor threads here more than most other types of threads.
4. I wonder if enjoying my Fatboy & pre-war Tech (and my 1932 Canadian Tech on the way) may disqualify me from BOTOC. Don't tell Alex or Jeff.
5. I am still a sucker for shiny razors or neat brush handles, photographed well. That Whipped Dog firehouse handle in red and white striping with the blue base and star is a clear example. Heespharm's shiny chrome lather catcher is another. Certain eBay sellers who have mastered the art of the mirrored, polished razor presentation simply look more desirable to me. Fortunately, one of those vendors charges an arm and a leg so I don't worry so much about that one in particular.

  • I have too many razors, some of them i never used
  • Same goes for brushes and soaps, mostly fancy ones i save for a "special occasion" that never comes.
  • I never used a scuttle or own one
  • I don't shave weekends unless i have to
  • I like fatboys and keep buying them but i seldom use them (or any TTO)
  • In over 40 years i couldn't make my mind on using DE or SE
  • Too chicken to try a straight - never did and probably never will although i like the idea

* I've only been DE shaving for a month and already own two DE razors and six different kinds of soaps.

* I love making lather in a scuttle. The warm lather on my face is almost spiritual.

* I spend lots of free time on this forum, Amazon, and Ebay looking to score the next shaving fix.

* I have one hundred Feather Blades on order preparing for the next apocalypse.

* I constantly think about my next shave and which creams and soaps I'll blend to make my shave supernatural. :biggrin1:

1. I can make any blade work for me.
2. I think prep is as important to a good shave as razor technique.
3. I can make any razor work for me.
4. I never go for BBS.
5. One pass with minor touch up. With the grain only.

I'll play ...

1. I got into DE wet shaving by asking for a straight razor for Father's Day, received a DE razor instead and never looked back.
2. I tried MWF, loved the lather and scent so much that I fought through the skin irritation for two weeks before calling it quits forever.
3. I tried straight razor shaving twice and quit forever after not being able to get the angle correct (see #1 for irony)
4. I have given away more things that are associated with DE wet shaving than I have received.
5. I tried Cella and PIF'd it away because I hated the scent. Now after going back to her, Cella and I are engaged to be married!

^He wins.

 Actually, due to #2, I lost. I still cannot get over the fact that I have experienced that skin reaction to MWF. I swear that I am on the verge of buying a puck again just to have it around to sniff once and awhile. Man, that really bums me out!

1. I got the idea to try wet shaving from a skiing forum.

2. Water is my pre-shave treatment...

3. ...Water is my post-shave treatment.

4. I'll sometimes do touch ups after rinsing the lather off my face (ie after my post-shave treatment)

5. I have actually saved money since I started wetshaving (about four tears ago) but I'm a little worried this site may change that.

A little worried?! That worry is the dwindling influence of good judgement, as you are slowly drawn in to the black hole of wet shaving. Bwahahahahahaaaaaaa . . .

1. I can lather MWF as easy as any cream

2. I think a lot of the of the lather porn photos are bull. (lather some washing up liquid, look familiar ?)

3. Price does not dictate quality

4. The Edwin Jagger DE89 needs a shim to shave properly

5. "The brush lifts your stubble" bull. My stubble grows away from my face

I've been here on B&B for less than a month and already have 5

#1. Making lather and super lather just for the heck of it now that I have "making a good lather down." Sometimes I end up shaving with it when not even intending to shave at all. I later have found out that I need a shower before shaves and my face really doesn't like "shave at the spur of the moment.

#2. Always acquiring different types of blades now that I have the technique down. I started with feather blades before coming to B&B. That "smarted"

#3. Already planning future purchases / trips to WCS, NYC, and the like to get stuff. Freekin MAD.

#4. Spending a lot of time on B&B and on threads like this one. Yes, I actually did read all 579 posts and some actually made me giggle. Others made me go, "now I feel better about that"

#5. Seeing what sampler packs I can get from where as I want to try it all. I know I can only shave once a day w/o irritation so I just want to see what I can try since DE shaving from day one [for me] has left my neck happy (read: no razor burn / ingrown hairs). If only I had found out about DE shaving 15 years earlier, I could have shaved myself all the irritation from electrics, cartridges, and disposables.

I'm sure I'll be adding to this list soon. :w00t:

1) I think most posters on this forum, including myself, have OCD
2) I love to shave while listening to Mozart; in my view, the two go together like badger and blade.
3) When I joined I was certain I would just learn the rudiments of DE shaving then leave. Instead, it's been a 'Veni,
Vidi, Velcro' experience: 'I came, I saw, I stuck around'
5) I'm a cancer survivor ( seven--count 'em-- years ) and the whole daily shaving experience is just what the doctor ordered to make me feel great
