I've had my Merkur Futur for over 5 years now. For all that time I would never dare to shave my head w/ it. Way too aggressive!
The first DE razor I got when I came back to wet shaving was a Van Der Hagen grocery store find. I shaved my head w/ it at night and woke up the next day w/ blood all over my pillows! So, I was "once bitten, twice shy".
From then on I used a cart for my head and my Merkur for my face (set at various settings (2-6)).
Recently, I got the parker 96R. It was also a no go for my head, too aggressive as well.
Yesterday I took delivery of a Rockwell T2 (gunmetal). I just finished the SOTD and at setting 3, two pass and cleanup. It was so smooth that I got brave! I shaved my head with it (3 days growth, mind you). Not one weeper. Not one hot spot w/ the alum block. DFS!
This razor is outstanding.
Shaving gear I used:
1. Grooming Lounge pre shave oil.
2. Cremo Shaving cream.
3. Parker shaving brush
4. Rockwell T2C.
5. Russian Astra Platinum blade.
6. Gentleman John alum block.
7. Fine Accoutrements "American Blend" after shave.
