What's new

The Journal Of Huck...

I used the Robin "Snap" razor yesterday with a new Parker 1/2 blade that came with the Parker Solo shaver. I really didn't have any experience with these blades until I got the Solo. I loaded the blade, soaked my Zenith boar and used Areffa "Discovery" as my soap. I loaded the brush right from the container, which to me is like mug lathering. Just before that I washed my phiz and rubbed the Cube over my face as well. Lathered up and began the shave.
Right from the first stroke you could feel the Snap just cutting through the whiskers closely. The WTG was a pretty good pass. Re-lathered and began the ATG pass. I find with this shaver you have to keep soap on the face, for some reason it "drags" more than my others. Maybe it's the aluminum. Or, when using the Cube with my lather, after a pass/stroke there's no residual "slickness" left. Anyway, not a problem, just an observation.
A great pass, one more to clean up a few areas, some buffing and a terrific shave was done. My face is still smooth enough to go about my day with no concerns.
In other words...It's a GREAT razor. I have a few aluminum razors which I really like and which give me excellent shaves. And it's funny because generally I don't care for aluminum but the ones I have are the exceptions including the Snap.
Very easy to use, manoeuvrable, balanced with a really good grip. Decently priced, Canadian...yay! What's not to like?
Cheers!

I am the same way. I don't particularly like aluminum razors, but I adore by RR MJ-90A. My Henson AL13 and RR Lupo aluminum can be smelted into beer cans for all I care. At least they would have a purpose and would provide enjoyment.

Aluminum usually drags more especially when it's "raw aluminum" like the snap.
No issues like that with the Shave-it razor because of the black anodized finish!
But I think the main issue with the dragging on the Snap is the head design. It's that "Henson like" head that just tends to have more drag than other razors. I had it happen with the original Yates Winning razor and I'm hoping that the new one doesn't do that
(whenever they ship it to me!)
Interestingly enough, my Henson +++ aggressive doesn't seem to do that. I'm guessing it's the increased gap that opens it up more.

I kinda like the 1.1 mm nib. I can see the bleeding being bit more pronounced on poorer quality paper. Also I'll be going through ink faster with this pen. And I received 7 more bottles of ink which I'm going to try out in my watercolours and sketch washes. Maybe even see how they perform when dropped onto rubbing alcohol wet paper.
All this has been really fun but now I'm feeling a "PENsive" mood coming on...BADABOOM! You knew it was coming...

It's the result of discs in my neck being worn and compressing some nerves or it's carpal tunnel which is doing the same thing. I have a doctors appt set up and hopefully I can get in to see a specialist of some sort to see if there's anything to be done. Because as we all know it's only gonna get worse.
Tried a good chiropractor Huck?
Last year I had a very bad 3 months of pain due to some compressed nerves.
The burn went from the right side of my neck & down my arm, through my wrist and to my fingertips!
I went to the Chiro (4 times a week for 2 weeks and the pain disappeared!)
He twisted me like a pretzel till all that finally released.
First time I had ever visited a Chiropractor and I did it on a whim!

The 1.1 nib looks great. Also if you use inks that shade more it will really pop. Inks that are not quite as saturated will shade better usually. When it comes to using up ink it is just like using up soap. They last a really long time. Like we say here on B&B regarding soap "use it like you hate it", that also applies to ink. You just got 7 more ink bottles! Not sure what inks you had before, but that is 210 fills at 1ml per fill, if you only got 30 ml bottles! I think you will be fine. If you run out of your favorite Diamine ink just get the larger bottle next time. :biggrin1:

Yes I do see a chiropractor for some tightness I get in my lower back. The problem is the wearing down of the discs in the neck. My neck doesn't feel like its stiff or anything and there's no pain in moving or twisting but I will mention it to my cracker the next time I'm in.

So my new pen case arrived along with some Plunger/hypodermic things for refilling cartridges etc. Will use those with the new inks and doing washes as well as refills. I have 5 of them.
The new case looks good, nice smooth interior which also come right out. A nice place to keep the pens.

Very nice case there and every fountain pen user needs some syringes in their life.

So, I keep getting surprised by my own razors. Today after going for a couple of no shave days, I decided to use my "Thorn" 1/2 blade razor and a Parker half blade with one shave on it.Lathered up with a boar and my Areffa Smoky Midday soap. Loaded from the container and away I went. Never really thought much about Parker blades and I was actually looking at the Thorn and a couple other razor to sell and get something else.
Not thinking that way any more. The WTG pass was like whipping a cart around. After that I checked and it was pretty good, now for the ATG pass. Well, that was magic, just about as good as my OverLander. I am amazed. A bit more buffing etc and I'm done.
This razor and the blade gave me a totally great no drama shave. Hell, I'm not selling this puppy, it's a terrific shaver. Not overly expensive and a bit goofy looking, it punches way above its weight class. No Thorn in the side here.

The Thorn is a great little razor. I'm looking forward to it coming back up to bat in the rotation.

So Carmen is at the lake which gives me a few days to screw around with a few things I want to get done. One was a take-apart sketch table that worked out. Another is sketching out a portrait of my pal when he and I were young and foolhardy. Doing this to remind him of the good times we had and before the onset of his Parkinsons. Then I got down to doing another oil pastel. I'm really enjoying learning how to handle this particular media. Watched golf which also reminds me I should get out and swing the new sticks...I did buy them to play with. Did some journaling and that about wraps up my day. Cheers to you all.
These are 3 of my latest sojourns into oil pastels. I will be attempting other subject matter apart from landscapes etc.
