Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

I picked up this cased star de razor yesterday. I did not pay a lot for it, and picked it up as a curiosity and experiment I wanted to see if my later star model 100 top cap was the similar or the same. Next shave video will be an experiment lol.

Ditto, ditto
This one may be going back. It gives a truly great shave, but, blade alignment is pure garbage. Ever owned al older model Fatip Piccolo? It’s worse that that.

It took no less than eight attempts to get the blade in a position I would use it. Also, the blade tabs extend farther than any razor I own.

It is absolutely beautiful, but, I need to do some serious thinking.

UPDATE

Heard back from Sean. He offered to take the razor back for evaluation and replace the plate. Before doing that, I tried other blades in my possession… Astra SP and GSB. they aligned perfectly. I then tried a half dozen more Lab Blues; 4 of 6 needed some manipulation. Weird as I’ve never had an issue with these blades before.

So, it seems to be a blade issue and not a razor issue.

And my small pickups outside of large purchases. Slowly pieced together a semi complete 1954 TV special on the cheap (had the instructions, tried to sell and no one wanted so did this), the Gillette Debutante to round out my women’s razors (have a near mint lady Gillette and both the hard to get Milady techs so this was next) the Sheraton to try an open comb American TTO (it’s great), a USA aristocrat junio to try (nothing special experience wise outside of a superspeed so will eventually sell) and finally the cheap can’t say no aristocrats.

Thank you. I could not believe when I won it on the bay. I threw a max bid amount on it and moved on never expecting to win. The bids never even got to my max. When I got the notification that I won I was shocked.
I find it weird, a razor will look ho hum start at 50 go to and sell at 148, 10 listings down is a bin of 150 in better cond and does not sell? one can not pick the winners some days, you did though :D

I've had the odd bidders remorse, hoped like hell i got outbid, and sweated till the last seconds :crying:

I'm really thrilled with this one! Another beauty from England. A 1939 Gillette Popular. From my research it is a 1939 based on the handle knurling pattern and the 400.621 patent on the head. I like the 1939 knurling better than the 1938 knurling. Replated in mirror nickel from BRG.
