He put some kid of oil on his face. At first I thought is was water. Having done a few dry shaves I know you can di it if your blade is uber sharp. But you can definately see the soap, oil of what ever it is bing pushed up by the blade.

looks like coconut oil. Great lubricant and good for the skin. Smells good too.
