Philips Norelco vs Wahl vs Remington vs ?

Since I'm now wet shaving and no longer using my Braun Series 7, which had a trimmer attachment. I'm in the market for a trimmer / groomer.

I'm currently considering one of these:

RemingtonLithium Power Series Head To Toe Grooming Kit

Wahl Groomsman Pro All-in-one
http://grooming.wahl.com/products/trimming/groomsman®-pro
Philips Norelco Multigroom 5100 or 7100

What are you thoughts and/or other recommendations? :confused2

Thanks!

I've tried several brands and models of electric groomers down through the years.
Never found one that I was happy with.
They have all tended to be cheap and flimsy and fall apart within a couple of months.

The next one I get will likely be a Wahl Peanut.

In general, corded models tend to be sturdier and longer-lasting than their battery-powered counterparts.

No matter which model you choose, be sure it has a good assortment of clipper guides to handle various styles of facial hair.
And don't forget maintenance supplies like a brush and clipper oil to keep it tuned up,
and some sort of carrying case to keep all the pieces together.

Depends a bit on what features are the most important. I just went through the same search for myself, and I ended up going with a Wahl lithium-ion All In One:

http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Lithium-..._UL160_SR160,160_&refRID=0EPCNX28B3XZ8KYJ4TG6

It had the best battery reviews from a couple sites I found that did head to head comparisons, and it had all the attachments I would ever need, plus some. Storage bag to keep it all together, plus the brush and clipper oil for maintenance as needed.

I noticed the ones you linked seem to come with a nose trimmer, if that attachment is something you were specifically looking to have included, the Wahl All In One probably won't work for you. Same goes for that charging stand/attachment holder that sits on the countertop. I specifically wanted a storage bag instead for keeping it in, you may prefer the stand.

I have used a bunch of different trimmers over the years, and I can not say I've ever encountered a brand that was bad or junk, so I'd say pick the one that has the features/attachments you need that you like the looks of, and that is within your price point. They all look to be carrying a 2 year warranty on them, so even that is pretty standard, it seems.

Looking forward to hearing what you end up getting after it arrives, over in the Acquisitions thread. :)

If you were getting good results with your Braun Series 7, why not continue to use that?

From what I've read, Braun makes some of the best electric razors out there, and the Series 7 is their top of the line, isn't it?

Thanks for the input dpm802 and Shave_Rat!!

I've used the Braun for years, and strangely enough the trimmer is what has broken on it. I've gone back to wet shaving and have decided not to spend the $$ to repair or replace the Braun.

Yes the Braun is and has been one of the top rated electric razors out there. It just takes too long, doesn't compare in closeness to even a cartridge shave. Really irritates my neck too, to get all the stubble there.

Happy to help, hope you gained some insight for yourself on it. Also, I missed seeing you are new to B&B, so welcome aboard! :a50::a29::a17::a14:

I have the Peanut and it is a superior trimmer IMHO. My only issue with it is it has only four blade attachments.

Four blades shouldn't be a problem since I am only using it to trim my goatee.

#2 in the summer and #4 in the winter should be all I need.

How long have you had yours?

My favorite feature for trimmers is water proof. Trim in the shower and let it all go down the drain. Let us know what you end up with, and how it works out for you in the long run.

For about 2 months. I was using it to trim my circle beard. And it did an outstanding job due to the motor and blades. Now I'm growing a full beard for the winter. My only concern is I may have some bald spots that show with a short length beard.

Cheap waterproof Wahl in the shower for me too. All you need to do is oil it occasionally. No need to go premium on this thing IMO.

I use it to stubble my head before shaving it too.

I've used several trimmers over the years and always find the batteries weaken and the device becomes useless. I recently opted for the Philips QT4050 and have found it to be an excellent trimmer. No need to oil it. The vacuum seemed gimmicky but it collects most of the hair. It also will bypass the battery if plugged in so if the Lithium Ion ever goes I won't have to toss it. Comb is also highly adjustable and removable.

Are you guys looking at beard or stubble trimmers?
As I'm looking at stubble trimmers.

They are basically one in the same thing, it's just a matter of how shallow the guard/combs go, and how fine of an adjustment you can make on them.

I wondered about some of the vacuum options. Thanks for your note. If I ever have issues with the waterproof type, I may try one of these next. And I probably need to oil mine as well.....

After further research I decided to go with the WahlStainless Steel Lithium Ion + #9818.
http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Lithium-...UTF8&qid=1451090313&sr=1-1&keywords=wahl+9818

It wasn't on my initial list but I found it to be more appealing to me and it had everything I was looking for. So Santa brought it to me today.

I'll let you all know how it works out for me.
