Would try out multiple edges to see what you like best. Then can start getting what you need based on what you like. Cheers

Do my own.
Had to send them out initially.
I would send them out to try different finishers to see what I liked without buying and learning a stone I may not like.
After I started honing I’d send them out to test a known good edge against what I was doing occasionally to track my progress.

My thought process was if I had a few I’d send them out. Since I now have about 40 I better learn how to hone since sending out will get costly.
