Reviving an old thread. @kingfisher is right, 70% isopropyl alcohol does a better job killing nasty stuff because of the water content which weakens the cell membrane thus allowing more alcohol to penetrate and do the dirty job.
No Barbicide. Rubbing Alcohol OK?

Wow no kidding old thread but since we're here I usually just dip my razors in for water displacement rather than any disinfecting. You`re washing your face before you shave so most of the nasty airborne stuff is gone before the blade touches skin. Barbicide, while great, is overkill for in the home. I fill my Barbicide jar with 70% isopropyl alcohol with a splash of mouth wash or Jack Daniels for a little color. Probably a bigger issue if a person is concerned with germs is not storing your stuff in the bathroom or worse on the top of the toilet tank.
