Mühle Silvertip Badger vs Silvertip Fiber

I'll keep it short.

Ordered both in medium thinking it was 24mm. Mühle's medium is 21mm, large is 23mm and XL is 25mm.

Used each once.

Badger. Not dense, floppy on the skin, poor flow-through. Several hair upside down. Shed quite a bit (but I read such happens at first).

At slightly over $100, no thanks.

Fiber. "Silvertip" is marketing (to make it look like one). It's not any better than the RR Bruce. RR 400 Plissoft is much better.

At slightly over $60, same, no thanks.

No frustration at all. I am happy to have tried them.

Sorry to hear it did not work out. I have heard some mixed perspectives on the smaller STF (synthetic) knot size. But I must say, the STF XL / 25mm is one of the best synthetic knots I have experienced. Only the Wald A1 tops it for me. I did have my STF brush custom made by Rudy Vey, so the loft may be different than the standard Muhle branded brush.

I second the 25mm synth by Muhle. @Rudy Vey set it in one of his amazing handles. It doesn’t hold water as well as dense badger but I love its performance. My feet and the floor get cleaned more often as well which might be a bonus depending on who is asked.

It's funny how different our preferences can be. In my case I rather enjoy Mühle's 21mm silvertip badger and dislike their silvertip fibre knots. Go figure

Indeed, I like Mühle Silvertip badger more than Shavemac’s Silvertip. Then, the Mühle Sophist line is one more level higher.

Glad you got to experience both. My everyday brush is a 21mm Muhle STF. Any time I use a natural hair brush it blows my mind how much more soap I need.
