Merkur HD + Feather = WooHoo!

Update,,, Ok i may not have found the 200 feather blades for $50, but i found 200 "Derby Extra" blades for $25.99 w/ free shipping. However, i do not know how these blades compare to feather razor blades, which can be found at this link:

Could you guys give me some feedback on the "Derby Extra" blades.

Also, i found a seller who is offering 10 feather blades for $4.99 with shipping and each additional pack of 10 blades for $3.49 with shipping from ebay, so 100 blades would cost $36.40 including shipping and 200 blades from him would cost $71.30 including shipping & handling fees. That listing is off of ebay and listed below:

If you need help with working through the purchase let me know. I'll help you.

I hope that can help some of you who like the feather blades.

I bought mine from a fs/ft vendor on another shaving site that was recommended by people here. But it's basically the same deal as cottom blossoms. They didn't seem to have the deal going at cotton when I looked.

You all have me intrigued by the Merkir HD rAzor. HOwever, when i looked it up there are a few versions of it. For instance, the safety straight razor, long classic, slant safety razor, HD comb safety razor, and the long handle version of the Merkur HD - according to
http://www.nashvilleknifeshop.com/me...zors-html.html

Which version is being referred to, or does it really matter?

Isaac,

The Merkur HD is the Merkur Heavy Duty Classic Straight Bar Razor with part number 34C in chrome plating and 34G in gold plating. This razor is a two piece design. The Merkur 1904 and long handle versions are three piece razor designs and will feel differently in your hand. I have held the long handle version in a local Art of Shaving store and I vastly prefer the HD straight bar two piece razor. You may have a different preference.

I have one straight bar with chrome plating and two slant bars with gold plating (P/N 37G). The slant bar razor is also a two piece design and has a diffent head configuration but has an identical feel and balance in your hand since it has the same handle as the straight bar version. The straight bar razor is my daily razor. I very rarely use the slants. The straight bar version works so well for me that I have no desire to try other razors.

Good luck.

I was looking for an interesting combo for the week. Sounds good and I will give it a spin. FWIW, one of the go-to combos for me is the Slant/Feather. This is a great combo that has given me consistently smooth shaves.

The Feather-MekurHD combo works great for me. That sharp blade cuts those wires/whiskers without any pulling whatsoever.

However, I did manage to cut myself really good while shaving when I was sick with the flu. You must pay close attention to your technique while using Feathers. If your hands tremble due to sickenss or hangover, skip shaving that day.
