Japanese Steel

My last shave of Japanese week 2024.

It seems sacrilegious to finish a kamisori on a coticule, but that’s the edge I chose for tonight. I did a light 8k cleanup followed by a light slurry to water on the coti side, then some light laps on the BBW. That progression has given me really nice edges on other razors. This was a good one too, but could have been sharper. It was still a great shave though.

Well, may as well put this here. Just arrived.
Kikuboshi 8300. Appears unused or *very* lightly used, no discoloration in the pivot and no hone wear. It has some devil spit on the reverse side. Had a couple minor dings near the heel that needed to be addressed which is a shame because it seemed to have a good edge otherwise.

Assuming the paper is original, and it may be, it does at least say Kikuboshi at the top, according to Google it is Swedish Assab steel. It describes it as forged at 800 degrees, annealed to spheroidize at 750 degrees overnight. Then brought to 840 and quenched and tempered at 220. At least, assuming Google translate can read Japanese.
