Hello everyone!
Because I have felt the most at home on the BL I decided to announce the birth of my son here. This forum has been like a second family to me. I have filled voids that absent family members left behind with individuals here. So I realized how important it was to me that I share the best thing to ever happen to me.
My wife had a very troublesome pregnancy since the beginning. She had severe morning sickness since the beginning. Trouble maintaining weight in the beginning was a huge concern. The first 3 months of pregnancy she lost 18 lbs. and slowly gained back the weight with a growing baby within 4 months. Recently, my wife was diagnosed with cholestasis which caused her doctor to mandate weekly check ups. On the second weekly check up after the diagnosis the Doc discovered she had high blood pressure and slight swelling of her hands and feet (which can be normal, but still cause for concern). On the third weekly check up the Doc saw an increase in blood pressure, swelling, and 8 lbs of weight gain. So, she asked to test her protein levels--they were high. The Doc immediately admitted my wife into the main hospital for a 24 hour urinalysis. They collected her urine and measured the total amount of protein in it. She was not allowed to go home (this was Friday, March 16th). So on Saturday morning, a specialist came in to talk to her. He explained to her that normal protein level should be less than a gram in 24 hours; 3 grams and they hospitalize you; 5 grams is severe; she measured at 8.9 grams of protein!! He diagnosed her with preeclampsia. This condition could cause her to have a seizure or stroke and be fatal to her and/or the baby. It is unknown why this happens and the only cure is delivery of the baby. The specialist allowed her to be induced rather than have an emergency c-section. My wife was in labor for 3 days. Finally, after seeing how much she had endured, I convinced her to take the c-section option. There were other complications along the way, but none as serious as the ones just described.
My son was born Monday March 19th at 7:27 pm. Weighing in at 4 lbs 13 ozs 18.5 inches long. After 2 weeks in the NICU and 4 days at home he is now 5 lbs 12 ozs and 19.25 inches long. He is growing fast and strong!
Gentlemen,
I present to you, Santiago Romeo Solis!
The first day...a few days later...This is what he looks like today. He's a handsome son! I'm so proud of him for fighting for his life!
Thank you all for looking. I'm already anxious to teach him how to shave!
