I spent about a year experimenting with soaps to elevate the shave. Discovered preference for tallow-based soaps, hard soaps, slipperiness coeficient, and subtle scents. Went through quite a few stinkers to narrow the favorites down to this grouping:

• Canada Shaving Soap: dense, handcrafted, slippery, earthy scent
• Haslinger Schafmilch:
• Pre de Provence No. 63
• ARKO!
• Martin de Candre
• Cella Crema da Barba
• Stirling mutton-based
• Saponificio Varesino

Knowing my preferences, from your own personal experience, is there a currently produced soap that is missing from this list?

"what the puck" line from Razorock. Gold, blue, black and there's a fourth scent that I can't remember the color Cheap, very hard, subtle scent but not tallow. You have mdc on there so I figured it was worth a mention.

Interesting. Found B&M Seville balm scent a bit meaty, so passed it along to another member. Yet never tried the legendary B&M soap... yet. Thanks @ewk.

That's a fine list! Wholly Kaw Bare Naked and Pasha's Pride (the only 2 I've tried) are quite nice, but they don't have the longevity of MdC and Canadian (apparently nothing does), so there's that.

If you like PdeP 63... well, first do give their Bergamot & Thyme a try, it's very different scent and lovely.

And along the lines of 63 scent - you will go nuts for SV Morado (or Argania, but Morado is even more so).

I definitely endorse the suggestion of RazoRock Santa Maria del Fiore. Very nice soap and wonderful tobacco scent. I think you might also like the new hard pucks from Abbate Y La Mantia.

If you like Cella, you will love Palmira. It’s a bit tricky to buy, as far as I know you can only get it directly from Serbian sellers on eBay, but it’s cheap and worth it.

I'd recommend Hendrix Classics. It's not tallow based, but I put it in my top picks. Pretty dense puck to boot.

Santa Maria Del Flore is pricey, but will last a very long time. A Dollop not much bigger than a pea will make plenty of great lather. And it comes in a heavy glass container, which I like.
