Live Through This and Celebrity Skin are terrific albums, but yeah, Hole is a girl fronted band, not a girl band.

Of the list, probably the Bangles. By a funny co-incidence, a friend sent me an article on an Indonesian metal girl trio, who hail from West Java, from Monday's Guardian newspaper. They call themselves Voice of Baceprot (pronounced "bah che prot") which my wife tells me means "noisy" in West Java dialect, and having watched them on You Tube last night, I quite enjoyed it. They all wear the headscarf and play really heavy rock which some conservative Indonesians are not happy with. If you like stuff like Rage Against The Machine, check them out.
Boygenius is a great contemporary band. All the members are solo artists in their own right. I haven't listened to them all but I like Lucy Dacus.
The Roches "We Three Kings" CD gets a lot of play at our house every Christmas. My favorite film about a fictitious all-girl band is "The Last of the Blonde Bombshells" with Judi Dench. Great for anyone who likes 40's swing music.
on the positive side, Hole did cover a song from my high school buddy's band.Hole??
They also had a male guitarist.
The Go-Go's had Belinda Carlisle but they also had Jane Wiedlin. Here's another ray of sunshine from those joyful and cloudless 80s.
The 80’s SKA band The Body Snatchers comes to mind.
