Gillette Aristocrat 1941 information

Hello fellow shaving enthusiasts!

I’m not trying to defend my purchase and I didn’t use a lot of money on this razor. I’m simply just curious and gaining new knowledge is always great.

I have just bought this razor from a 71 year old man in Italy who had inherited it from his grandfather from New York. The razor has apparently never been used and has been sitting in a drawer. Everything is still intact and in fantastic condition.

I’m a pretty ambitious collector myself and have read quite a lot on different forums and e.g. Mr.razor’s informative website.

As you can see on the pictures I have a couple of other US ‘Aristocrats’ and the thing I’m wondering about is the “end caps”

According to this thread:

1940s Regent Tech - https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum/threads/1940s-regent-tech.270150/

there is quite a lot of different combinations and it can quickly become a bit confusing.

My new bought razor has “end caps” and so does this one from eBay:

Gillette Aristocrat Razor & Case 1941 Used | eBay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/174767544992?hash=item28b0f51aa0:g:HkEAAOSwhqBgnP4w

But the one on Mr.razor’s website doesn’t:

I want to hear if there is somebody else out there in the shaving community that has experienced the same since I have read multiple times that ‘Gillette’ didn’t use ”end caps” before 1946?

That razor is a 1948-50. Great condition!

The handle knurling at the neck gives it away and they all had end caps. Earlier mismatched case.

^^ This is correct. Very nice condition, and welcome.

Thank you for the replies and the welcome!

That has also been my own conclusion since it looks like one of the other Aristocrats I own.

I just try to imagine how and why it got mismatched. I mean the old man I bought it from clearly knew what it was. He didn't sell it for 10$ sadly 🙂 He wasn't a collector and I don't think his grandfather was either. The only thing I can think of is if his grandfather somehow ruined or lost the original one and later bought a replacement and therefore a newer model and the matching case just got lost 🤔
