As a lot of guys here do, I hand strop my blades pretty regularly.
That would be probably the most worthwhile function of an alcohol dip, IMHO.

I don't believe that anyone has suggested to not clean the sludge out of the cartridge with water.
I think he uses the razor to take "bobbles" off the jeans and it never goes near his face anyway!
