Cure For The Common 1911 Idiot Mark; or…

…FWIW

Long ago, I learned my lesson the hard way, unfortunately, on a Series-70 Colt Cup Nat. Match (still SMH).

Back in the day, 1911-philes referred to them as combat marks, as they were practically standard-issue on (non-arsenal reworked) surplus USGI 1911A1s. Not one for stolen valor, the gouge on my Gold Cup was - and remains- an idiot mark.

Prevention:
Tape (electrical)

Notched Slide Stops-
Can be filed @ home (below, left) or purchased from Wilson Combat or Ed Brown. The notch eliminates the need for upward movement when reinstalling a slide stop.

Erasing idiot marks (stainless steel)-

Joe was helping me yesterday, I agree totally with the Patriot and Saint comment. I am thinking on ordering a notched slide stop. Then I will try and file the one in the springfield.
I am also, considering the same since this thread. :)
