Cleaning Pewter

I have a brush and a mug made from english pewter, I try to clean them often, but water spots are getting harder to clean off.
I have heard that rubbing cabbage leaves on it works good. I have also heard that rubbing a wet washcloth and some flour works as well.
Anybody have any experience using any of these tricks or others? Will Brasso take the finish off?
Any Shaving-Jedi's out there who can pass on their knowledge would be greatly appreciated.:a45: (just had to use this one)

Make a pot of boiled potato's and save the water for cleaning pewter and silver. You can add a coat of auto wax after its nice and shinny-
Brasso has strong ammonia in it and will damage silver or pewter.

Happy Polishing

Edge gel is suggested for shaving also. I have found Brasso to be to aggressive in the past and can cause clouding later.

To each his own-YMMV
