Best and Worst Bond Themes

OK, so this was in the Daily Telegraph earlier in the week:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...rst-James-Bond-themes-named-in-new-chart.html

1. Live and Let Die – Sir Paul and Linda McCartney – Paul McCartney and Wings (22)
2. Goldfinger – John Barry, Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley – Shirley Bassey (2)
3. Another Way to Die (from Quantum of Solace) – Jack White – Alicia Keys (17)
4. Die Another Day – Madonna and Mirwais Ahmadzaï – Madonna (17)
5. Diamonds are Forever – John Barry and Don Black – Shirley Bassey (1)
6. You Know My Name (from Casino Royale) – David Arnold and Chris Cornell – Chris Cornell
7. Nobody Does It Better (from The Spy Who Loved Me) – Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager – Carly Simon (19)
8. The World Is Not Enough – David Arnold and Don Black – Garbage (20)
9. View To A Kill – John Barry and Duran Duran – Duran Duran (10)
10. You Only Live Twice – John Barry and Leslie Bricusse – Nancy Sinatra (5)
11. GoldenEye – Bono and The Edge – Tina Turner (7)
12. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service – John Barry – John Barry Orchestra (8)
13. Thunderball – John Barry and Don Black – Tom Jones (4)
14. For Your Eyes Only – Bill Conti and Michael Leeson – Sheea Easton (16)
15. Licence to Kill – N. Michael Walden, Jeffrey Cohen and Walter Afanaseiff – Gladys Knight (15)
16. The Living Daylights – John Barry and Pal Waaktaar – A-Ha (9)
17. Tomorrow Never Dies – Mitchell Froom and Sheryl Crow – Sheryl Crow (14)
18. From Russia With Love – Lionel Bart – Matt Monro (6)
19. All Time High (from Octopussy) – John Barry and Tim Rice – Rita Coolidge (21)
20. The Man With the Golden Gun – John Barry and Don Black – Lulu (18)
21. Moonraker – John Barry and Hal David – Shirley Bassey (13)
22. James Bond Theme (from Dr No) – Monty Norman – John Barry Orchestra (3)

I know it's all subjective, but I hate Wings' theme so how that got to #1 is beyond me. I do prefer the older ones, and my list would probably be as noted in brackets behind the "official" placings. What do you guys think? I must be honest and say my top 5 and bottom 5 were quit easy, it was the midfield that I found harder to arrange - is Licence to Kill really worse than Tomorrow Never Dies?

I have to agree w/ the #1 choice here. In fact, for me it is an absolute no-brainer #1. Nobody Does it Better a solid #2.

The rest - meh. I love Bond, but for the most part the 'theme songs' are quite forgettable for me.

Tomorrow Never Dies is my least favorite of the more recent productions - not a stellar example of Sheryl Crow's talents :scared:

I would probably have to pick 'Nobody Does It Better' because I used to work for Carol Bayer Sager.

agreed with rocco on that one but put Die Another Day – Madonna and Mirwais Ahmadzaï – Madonna at the bottom becoz i cant stand that song at all

More telling than a ranking of them all is looking back at how FEW of them were really worth remembering at all.

Six. Maybe. Out of 22. That's not a very good hit ratio.

My selection for #1 would be On Her Majesty’s Secret Service – John Barry – John Barry Orchestra. Awesome instrumental and an excellent movie credit sequence linking Connery with Lazenby. The movie itself is underated and actually one of the best Bond films IMHO.

The Maddona tune should be down at the bottom with Lulu. The Man with the Golden Gun was one of the most annoying themes and a horrid movie right next to both Timothy Dalton films.

I agree with some of the other comments. I think a lot of the John Barry/Shirley Bassey songs are at the top followed by OHMSS. the Madonna/Mirwais song absolutely sucks and should be at the bottom for sure. Although, the new Adele/Skyfall theme song is pretty good imho and ranks at the top for recent Bond themes.

I've always felt the Dalton films are sadly under-rated. TLD was poor, mainly because Mariam D'Abo just screeched her way through the film, but LTK I think was a great film - Bond was dark, brutal, unforgiving. What Fleming wrote in fact. But as ever, YMMV(!)
