Are "short X" stroke edge trailing always? and other related Qs

Reading HONING WITH LAPPING FILMS - https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum/wiki/HONING_WITH_LAPPING_FILMS , I have some questions about the "short X" stroke:

  1. Is it always edge trailing?
  2. Is there a version of a half length "standard X stroke" that's edge leading?
  3. In my mental model edge trailing strokes easily create a foil edge, but this says to finish with edge trailing. How is a foil edge avoided?

I want to mention @rbscebu, but not sure how to do it in this app.
I never do edge trailing. As you say, it is asking for a fin. I’ll do half strokes in the early stages to speed things up, but after that it’s always edge leading.

Having said that, I have no reason to use lapping film, but the theory holds true regardless.
