I just can't help buying a mystery hone when I find one at a flea market. This one is Japanese (as everything from the seller was from Japan). The wooden box looks to have some age to it. Of course, no label or identifying marks.

Synthetic water stone, I believe. Maybe an early King?
It looks like a really really dirty king or sun tiger 1000

Grabbed this. The chunkiness drew me in. I'll have a better idea when i get it and can give it a clean.
Ah just realised I posted in the wrong thread. I’ve now since posted in the correct spot.
I suspect it'll be a cool looking but unidentifiable slate once cleaned... probably with some squiggles/waves in it.
